I have a friend that took the middle part off the muffler an just used it as a two piece instead.. He got a new bolt that would fit an hold the two pieces together..

Just a few pics of his setup, it seems to work very well, good power only a little louder than normal, but no coming apart..

I have to say sealing all the joints with silicon gasket compound as well as applying it to the nut worked for me. I also used the gasket compound on the muffler to engine faces, without the standard gasket and worked for me as well. They say tightening up when hot helps but I would have thought the aluminium body would expand more than the steel bolt and hence tighten everything up when hot anyway.

10gx Muffler and ignition

I had a problem with the stock muffler coming loose in the beginning, but was able to keep it from coming apart after a few flights as long as I did not run the throttle near full power for long periods of time. If I just ran the plane "normally" with various throttle settings I had no problem at all.

I have been using this as an FPV plane setup, and find that maintaining a constant 70%- 100% throttle setting for long periods of time caused the stock muffler to come loose so I recently designed this muffler to replace the stock one. Internal body volume is the same as stock muffler but the chamber halves are threaded together without the bolt down the center. The body of the muffler has the threads. No problems so far

On a separate note, I recently returned the ignition module that came with this 10gx to horizon for repair. I had an intermittent mid throttle misfire that was very obvious. It only happened at mid throttle in a very narrow rpm range, and perhaps 3-5 revs in a row would fail to fire. Never caused a dead stick

I must say horizon service is excellent! Only took 2 days for them to test the unit, find that it did have a misfire problem and send me out a new one. Unit was under warranty and about a year old. I had about 3 gallons of fuel run through the engine and only one dead stick on this engine, from the stock muffler coming loose.

Hope this helps others who might run into a similar experience.
