Maxford USA Antonov An-2
This ARF was released at the end of May 2013. I’ve not read anything about it anywhere online.
I received mine on June 20 and it was ready to fly on July 6.
I have 11 flights on it to date.
Greg Gimlick has also flown his now for his review in an upcoming Model Aviation.
I’d like to hear experiences from other folks regarding this ARF.
I’m specifically looking for any problems with the assembly, power system used and radio system used, especially the servos.
My review of the plane will be in the September 2013 Ampeer, which should be posted around August 20.
The specs for my land version:

ESC: Castle Creations Ice 50
Battery: 4S “A123” 2300mAh
Prop: APC 13x8E
Calculated pitch speed: 58 mph
Watts in: 380 at ten seconds into a fully charged full power motor run
Watts in per lb.: 63.2
Servos: 6 Power Up 12g Metal Gear Sub-Micro Servo
Receiver: Tactic TR624
Transmitter: Tactic TTX650
Ready to fly weight: 98 oz. or 6 lb. 2 oz.
Wing Cube Loading: 8 (typical trainer/easy flying sport plane)
Wing Area Loading: 18.4 oz./sq.ft.
Absolutely does not like crosswind takeoffs.
Fairly easy to fly. Flips on landing a lot, but getting better as it takes a lot of practice to get everything right for the ‘perfect’ landing.

There were two reasons to add the red striping.
1.) The red stripes cover the Monokote/X-type hinges
2.) I can't fly any plane that isn't red and yellow

I got another flight on the Maxford USA Antonov An-2 yesterday.
Why only one? I'm an instructor at our field and I had two students. Got lots of flights in with them. One of them asked me to put a flight on the An-2 for them to watch, so I did. Hopefully I'll get several more flights this coming weekend.

I find it interesting that Maxford USA had a lot of these on preorder and it appears that no one on RC Groups has one to comment on.

You and I seem to be the only ones so far flying these. Seems odd to me since it got a lot of attention at Toledo. John Kauk takes the best flight photos of anyone, he ALWAYS gets great shots. I was spoiled when he lived here in NC because he did all of my flight shots.
I took my AN-2 to the lake today for the first time. With the power system that's in it, it didn't even notice the extra two pounds the floats added. I'll get some photos posted when I'm at the laptop.
I'm still working on my landing technique, but the partial flaps and powering it all the way to the ground seems to work best. It does not like crosswinds whether it's on land or water. Fortunately at the lake today we were able to pretty much do everything into the wind until a couple of boats got in the way.

Here's the scoop on my version of the Antonov. The power system in this is way more than it needed, but I was afraid the extra two pounds of floats would weigh it down. Turns out it could have flown nicely on less.

I think you meant 97 oz. RTF for the land plane version.

Nah, in NC our pounds only have 12 ounces :-)
Thanks for catching that, it would have gone to the magazine that way....of course an editor would have caught the error....no, honest they would :-)

While some folks might find a 'transport' type plane a little bit boring to fly, there are aerobatics that have been done with the full-scale Antonov An-2.
These are the ones I'm doing when flying my Maxford USA Antonov An-2

Oh boy, I can see it coming now. A whole new event, transport aerobatics, consisting only of maneuvers that have been SUCCESSFULLY performed by their full-size counter parts.

Apparently, the reason was that they had to remain within airport airspace during the airshow, and couldn't venture out past the boundaries. Pretty crazy. The Polish airshow looks like a US little municipal airport!
