Build Log
Tweety JW (JW30)

**now available at http://www.jwglider.com**

I love tweety planes and have been threatening to build a tweety-size JW for a while now. Tonight I took the first step and cut some tweety cores! I mocked up a plane using Mini JW parts. James and I think it should come in right around 0.54 lb AUW and have a service ceiling of 399 ft AGL One small step for man, one giant leap for tweety kind:

I want a DS pro version. Don't worry I'll register it with the FAA and release you of all responsibilities.

surly max size of a tweety is something that starts with twenty? or am I missing something?

Apart from that it looks interesting. What size servos fit in?

Knowing the JW section I would guess 11mm?

No idea on servo size but I plan to use something like a 65MG.

If you know of one that is reputable, I will get in touch with them.

Finished the CNC program for the Tweety fuselage and got the first one cut out of 1.9 lb EPP. It looks mean and fast in person!

I was going to make an ultralight Tweety JW, but since we are about to go into the spring windy season I have changed gears and instead will be building the plane heavy. To this end, I have added basswood trailing edge stock to the wing cores and will ultimately cover the wing in 10 mil DI.

I have also shaped the fuselage and spackled both the fuselage and wing 1 coat. Planning on 3 spackle coats total and will probably 77 rather than thin goop the foam after spackling.

I think a 65mg will fit in the wing with ease, but I am considering something slightly thinner that is of similar speed / tightness / quality. But alas such a servo may not exist...

Thanks Will. I know the MKS have a much tighter drivetrain and centering than the 65MGs so I could go with those and call it a day. But I will research the KST and blue bird ones. Main concern on a small and fast plank is gear and bearing slop, since a small amount of slop can make a huge impact on control.

I have used kst 215mg's in all of my jw's and been well pleased. They are a little thick, 12mm. They are very fast and have held up great for me.
