I'm guessing it's something to do with speed and/or angle of flight, but what do "high alpha" and "low alpha" mean?

Thanks

Sith Lord, High alpha is when the wings of a plane are at a steep angle in relation to the planes forward motion.
Here is some high alpha flying.

Knife Edge is when the wings re oriented vertically rather than horrizontally. The plane is basically flying on its side.

ZACATTACK, This is actually the wrong thread t post this question in.... But here goes.

It's easy to do, If you need to, raise and support the back of the fuselage of the air plain so that the stabilizer is level with the surface you will be measuring from. Zero the trim for the elevator and looking at the stabilizer/ elevator from the side make sure they are level. (use a straight edge if necessary) Measure or mark a ruler at the center of the trailing edge (TE) of the elevator. Pull back on the stick the ele. will move up. measure the distance it moves. if the measurement is 12 mm your good to go. Push the stick forward, the ele will move down, and take a second reading. If it's the same your done. but you may need to adjust the linkage to the the proper throws.
