Boat B in Paint

Hi Everyone,
Boat B's owner has been busy painting. Here is the mock-up of the boat that we did yesterday. The radio and electronics tray is going in, and we have to figure out where all that stuff will go. Bob SF

Faulty Servo Makes Throttle Pulse

Hi Everyone,
Here is an update on Boat B.....she now has a radio and she runs....at least on the workbench for now. Boat B's owner came by for a visit and we hooked up the radio gear.......

Today's radio installation was a learning day for me. Once the 40 amp Viper Speed Control was set up, the boat was turned on and the rudder buzzed and the throttle pulsed, with reverse having more rpm than forward. The rudder servo was "hunting", looking for neutral which it would find and go quiet and then it would start hunting again. The setting of the speed control also didn't work like it normally does (I've done a bunch of these installs with this speed control). The weirdest part was the pulsing of the throttle.

We swapped out the RX and TX for a Futaba T6EX transmitter and a R61FS FASST receiver and the throttle pulsing stopped. The rudder servo was better, but still buzzed around center. We swapped out the rudder servo next and the world went quiet and everything worked as it should. We then swapped my radio gear out for the original TX and RX and it still worked. All was well in tugboatland.

We mounted the ventilators, engine room vent, and glued the stack in position. The shop bench is level, so all we had to do was to level the boat on the stand, and then put a level at the top of the stack.....and everything looked good....so, out came the 30 minute epoxy and we made the stack permanent. The sound system comes next. Also...big news.....Boat B is now the Leanna M. Bob SF

Hi Guys,
I'm sure the owner of Boat B (Leanna M.) would be pleased to hear you say that you liked the color scheme. Lots of head scratching went into finding a color scheme that would produce a "happy" looking tugboat. The plan is to get the boat on the water by September. Off to get ready for Tugfest.....Bob SF
