Thanks All! Brushless HummingBird Flies!

Well, thanks to all the help I got from you guys here at RC Groups, my HummingBird is new flying brushless!!! The support I received when posting my numerous questions, is what makes this hobby great!

Here is my finally setup.

Orvis V-II (Hummbird copy)
Aluminum CNC Collar for Main Shaft from Heli Hobby
Swashplate Center Ball from Heli Hobby
Hacker B20 22S motor from Aircraft-World
Castle Creations Phoeinix-10 ESC from Aircraft-World
2-Cell 1200mah eTec LiPoly battery pack from Aircraft-World
GWS Naro Servos, Pico RX and PG-03 Servos from AV8 Hobbies.

Flies for about 17 minutes out of ground effect on a charge. Need to get another LiPoly pack, think I will try a 2s2p eTec 1200 pack, the extra weight will help with my balance problem!

I will post a pic when I get the wiring and compent placement cleaned-up!

Thanks again!

Good deal. I didn't get a feeling on how you like it though.

2S1P Etec should be more than enough for this machine. Or are you just doing it for balance?

I can't recall - are you running Hornet blades? If not you need a set - the heli will do much better with them.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

I like it fine. Still seems a little twitchy, but that is more than likely my pilotly skills!

Still using the stock HB blades. Which if the Hornet blades should I use? The white fiberglass or the MS carbon fiber? What mods do I need to do to the HB head to make them fit?

I just wish I had bought two battery packs! LiPoly's charge slow!

I forgot to add that I am using the Stevens AeroModel head stiffener, tail fin, and IPS motor mount. I am using a GWS EDF-50 motor on stock tail rotot with 8t pinion.

Anyother upgrades I need to do?

thanks, time to hover, battery should be charged!!!

The hornet blades will make a very noticeable difference in stability. For me, the fiberglass blades with a home made head stiffener works out best, it's a lot more stable than my cf blades for some reason. With the Cf blades, I find that with a head stiffener, it's not too stable, it likes to drift and hovering can be a pain but without a head stiffener and stock head, it's a lot better, I myself defiitely like the fiberglass better, for some reason it's a lot smoother and stabler but the cf seems more agile.

The fiberglass are not as strong as the cf though, that's the downfall I guess, but I have yet to break a fiberglass blade and I definitely put it through some abuse, they have a few cracks and chips I ca'd but still kickin, I broke 2 cf blades already. Go figure, haha. The fiberglass crack and chip upon impact fairly easily whereas the cf doesn't but the cf ones both broke at the root area.

Sounds great! I will get a set ordered! What mods do I need to make the Hornet blades work on the HB?

Just screw them to the top of the head with longer screws. Works great for me so far!

Yea, that's the best way, plus no mod needed whatsoever...

Well here it is! My Hacker powered HummingBird.

It flies great! No complaints! I have a set of CF Hornet FP blades on the way.
