i saw one in action.

i visited a friend of mine in salt lake a couple years ago. he was dsing one of his JWs and a little peregrine falcon chased him to the back side for a dive. then he did it again this time a little farther and went up and hovered waiting for the JW to come back around. after a few tries he made a full lap and made another dive the second time pulling out and did not return. i think it either scared him or got him sick lol.

by the way each dive he was only a few feet from the JW in a tucked position with wings folded close to the body. i wish we could of taped it. its one of the most amazing things i have ever seen.

My story ( which vanished above ) involved a swift furballing with my JW at over 100mph at Parker. The furball lasted 5 minutes. The swift purposely buzzed my head every lap, missing me by no more than 3 feet. The swift sounded like a mini Kinetic, with thumping shear crossings and the classic DS woosh sound throughout the circuit!

We have that happen on Zion where we fly. I think they are having fun...

I've also watched a single swift through binocs rapidly traverse Dakota Hogback as far
as I could see it (several hundred yards), snaking back and forth through the shear
clearly DSing with a purpose.

Also have had Peregrines chase planes through the DS circuit at both Zion and Jones Pass
but they seem more intent on the chase itself than the energy gain that the swifts use so
effortlessly.

Here's a couple of Swifts at Weldon.

It's uncut footage. These guys were doing it for so long and so low that many of us were ducking for cover. Spencer finally got out his iPhone and got some passes.

This single frame gives you an idea how close they were. IF you look at a few of the previous frames you'll see that they are actually flapping their wings as well.

Perhaps two males in a little chase/fight...
