EDF surge

I have an HK Mercury Alloy 1600 (8S) EDF, powered by two (2) 4S (65-130amps) 5000 mah batteries in series, controlled by a Turnigy dlux 120a ESC.
I did some bench testing and found the EDF to be surging slightly at full throttle. Any ideas as to what may be the cause?
BTW, didn't have any fashion of measuring RPM nor did I measure any current parameters during the test.
I was more curious about lbs thrust developed than anything else. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for anyone's opinion.

Try changing the low voltage cutoff setting on the ESC to do nothing, rather than reduce power. It might be your batteries not maintaining voltage under load (causing the ESC to hit LVC).
Hook up a simple LIPO battery monitor on your balance leads during the run to see what your cell voltage is doing under load.

Yea sounds like low volts. you need to put a meter on it and read volts under load. Check the esc settings. May be set for wrong cell count

Check your lipos as they may not be standing up to demands.

Hi guys, sorry for the delayed reply. Found the ESC set for 10 cell count and set it to 8
since that's what I'm running (2-Packs of 4 cells in series). I also set the undervoltage to "ignore". Not sure if I should have done that? Anyway, when I tested it this time she was a screamer and no surging at all! Thanks very much for your help! Do you think I should set the undervoltage to "Reduce Power" or leave it as is?

Set the LVC (Low Voltage Cutoff) to 3.2V. And try it again with LVC set to reduce power. Never set LVC to cut off power. Batteries are less then new jets.

I would set to do nothing (ignore)) as a power reduction may cost you your model. Better to use a battery voltage monitor and time your flights to keep voltage safe.

I like your suggestion also, and would prefer to do that as I have a timer on my Taranis. Thanks 4 stripes and everyone for your help!
