Hi guys,

What do you think about this model with a modified firewall and a Saito 30FA 5CCM four stroke, I do not plan to fly 3D just for cruising around, do touch and go´s and basic loops and rolls.

Is it too big or??

I have looked at that one too, but I already have a larger Decathlon with a OS 70fs, I was looking for something low wing sporty kind of plane, for the little Saito.

It might fly it as a sport flyer if it really does come out to 1200g, but I think it will be at LEAST a pound over that. I'd say it's a coin flip whether it would have satisfactory flight performance on that airframe. Most of the hobbyking electric offerings are too delicate for a nitro engine. I can't really see any sport planes that they sell that would be a good fit other than that Decathalon. But, if there's a 1000mm plane that you like, you can always double up the firewall and add some wood to the weakest points, particularly in the wing saddle area.

If you can keep the plane down to about 3.5 lbs (1588g) then you should get decent performance with that .30.

Thanks for the advice guys, I ended up buying this one http://www.rcmodelcentre.co.uk/Black...rod_22788.html I could not resist visiting my local plane pusher today, looks like a robust build with plenty of room in the cowling for a cylinder horizontal mount. Can not wait to modify that firewall, bolt the Saito in it and get it to the flying field.

Your original selection would shake apart after a couple flights.. cracked joints, etc... 2 or 4 stroke.
On any electric you'll need to beef up the entire area or it will just twist off or smash when you apply the starter.

You'll need to figure out what to do about balancing after your done as it will be quite nose heavy now.

all I did was shorten the firewall and make a new one, then boxed in the motor exstension with some 1/64th lite ply to keep fuel out from inside airframe!

she's no 3d beast but a great sport flyer, the airframe I been looking for, for this lil engine, for over 20 yrs!

P.s. that lil EDGE should be a blast!
