I'm intrigued by the "lockout flaps." How common is that on DS planes? Seems pretty clever and simple.

It's as common as we can make it. Sometimes the geometry of
the linkage just doesn't allow it to move that far. ian |

Okay...I might just have to reconfigure my Extreme then. The plane was first set up probably 10 years ago, and I don't recall that technique being around back then. Haven't done much to it since.

Thats nice and a good deal. I don't think ive ever flown the MCT. I had an older single carbon v-tail but never the new hotness.

That MCT has the bottom hinged flaps, which I actually prefer. The lockout flap linkage set up the way I did it allowed for a true 90 degrees of flap travel. As good as it gets IMO.
If you set the linkages a little bit off from fully locked out, you still get the strength of locked out flaps, but you can also dial in reflex, or mix the flaps in with the ailerons. I used heli ball linkages and aluminum arms on all my MCT/MCV builds. The Opus hinges tended to delam after high speed DS, so I also wicked thin CA into all the hingelines of all the surfaces to keep this from ever happening. This MCT is capable of going as fast as any MCT can go, guaranteed. |

It's windy for sure, but raining as well.
I need to pop a plane out of the Shockwave molds I have and get out and DS again, it's been a long time! I've been busy with work, GF, racing cars and model cars (just finished 5th at the Nationals). I'm hoping this year to buy a house/property where I can set up a shop. The CNC machines I want to get weigh 20,000 pounds and I only want to move them once! |
