Hi,
Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced motor for a 64mm EDF ?

I would like to use it with my 3 cell 1300 bats.

I currently have a Turnigy 4400 in one of my jets, which I love and it was pretty cheap at the time. But can't find them anymore.

Motors confuse the hell out of me. Seems like there are $15 to $50 ones, with the same specs.

Not looking for super speed, just good power and good flight time.

All depends on what jet your using it in and weight of the jet. What size esc you have as well. How many blades you want to use to push the airframe with.

I have an F-18 64mm that weighs in around 560 grams without the battery. It has a 2615 4800kv motor and flys on a Turnigy 2200mah 3s 35c battery really well. It has the GWS 6 blade fan. I have a Thunderbird 54amp esc as this set up pulls about 40 amps. Get around 4 1/2 minutes flight at 3/4 to full throttle. This is very easily hand launched.

What is the C rating of the lipo? That goes a long way toward figuring out what motor to use.

I have a bunch of the Turnigy 1300Mah bats, with a C rating of 25 -35.

Maybe this will help. I currently have the Great Planes L-39 with stock 55mm fan and stock ESC. I am using the Turnigy 4400 motor in it with the 1300 Bats.
I consider this a perfect setup. Lots of power and good flight time.

So I am trying to find a motor to replace the Turnigy 4400, since I can no longer find them.
Though I would like this motor for my F-22 with stock single 64mm fan and ESC.
I may be naive, but I figure if this motor is really good in the 55mm it should be good in the 64mm.

Any input would be appreciated. I assume kind of assume most stock 64mm setups are similar, so just looking for a good motor to replace the stock motor, which is pretty lame.

Go on Hobby King site and look at the EDF Brushless motors ... the 2615 ... 2810 range are all designed for 55 - 64mm EDF use. They range from 3800 up to 5000kv ...... the optimum one as I have found with a 6 blade standard stock 64mm is the 2810 4300KV ... if you go higher KV then you need to cut back on blade count as the amps go up dramatically.

I currently use the 2810 4300kv in my 64mm T45 and it is a beaut on a 3S ... but 4S is a high amp ticket.

hobbypartz has a line of EDF motors that are right here in the states. Free shipping too if you order is at least $50. a 4800 kV is a sweet setup for 64mm fans but it will consume over 35 amps, it will be a bit much for your current lipos.

For your 1300 mah 25c-35c batteries your best bet would be the 4300kv motor and a 5 blade fan to keep the amp draw within your battery spec and would most likley be safe for the stock esc already in the jet.

All of your comments make sense.

I ordered 2 of the Exceed 4300's, from Hobby Partz, since they are closer and the price seemed the same as HobbyKing.

Good choice ... the problem with EDF is that to get more thrust is a game of mix and match. With a prop plane - you get pretty goods ground indication of change ... with EDF it is not so obvious at times.

I would suggest not to be tempted to go up in kv or blade ... until happy with present and then glean info from all sorts of sources about possible combos of motor / fan etc. One part out of synch and you could be draining a batt in short space ... get it right and battery is happy.

I speak from my own learning curve and STILL mixing / matching to get best combo.

Hey is it normal for HobbyPartz to not provide information as to when their items ship.

I placed the order last Friday. They sent the automated confirmation.
And nothing since (4 business days later).

I asked for an update yesterday and no reply today.

So far I am having a real bad experience.

I've never had a problem with Hobbypartz, that's not saying that it couldn't happen. I order so much from so many different sources, I really don't remember if hobbyparts sends a notice of shipping.

Did you try the live chat? It works 9-7, Monday - Friday. You could get on there right now as it's before 9PM eastern and they are on Pacific time.

I went back and looked at a previous order, yes... they send a shipping confirmation e-mail. I would hit the live chat.

I sent another inquiry tonight and they replied pretty quickly. But I also said if the order hasn't shipped yet, to cancel it.
I don't mind waiting for shipping, but I am not waiting four plus days to process the order. So they cancelled it.

Looks like I am going to order from Hobby King. I know sounds ridiculous, but I have little patience.
