I've replaced a box before and it's delicate work with a Drexel getting the epoxy removed. I think I may give this a try also next time

Motorbox Rebuild, Continued

I had about an hour today to kill so I decided to tackle cleaning up and off the old motorbox and getting the new motorbox to sit nice and square.
And it does.
Thank God for the Dremel Tool and the X-Acto knife!

I managed to get much of the epoxy and CA overrun off but some still remains.
I don't want to sand it too much further thinking it might weaken the structure.
But I'm concerned that if I use a wood glue (titebond) there won't enough wood-to-wood contact and that I might be better off with epoxy (again).

Ideas?

I'm with you on that Chino. the only motorbox that ever came lose on my PA planes was one I used aliphatic wood glue (Titebond) on. Epoxy works well and that is why it is recommended by Shaun

The last box I did was on my X with Titebond, I think it was over 2 years ago...
Extremely hard flying, and plane bashing is no challenge for wood glue.

That said, do what you are comfortable with. Personally, I prefer a 2-5 minute motor box swap without having to worry about damaging firewall or fuse.

imo, there is no substitute for epoxy here unless you use an advanced epoxy like Hysol. On my 1/4 scale an larger 3D planes I build them with titebond but still use 30 minute Pacer "Zap" epoxy on the firewall and critical areas.

I'm going with epoxy...
If I dork my plane again, I'll already know the process which wasn't as daunting as would have expected.
The most important facet to me was a steady hand using the dremel with a sanding tip to clear out the majority of the jank and keeping the cutting disc perfectly straight as I cleared the slots.
All in all it took about 45 minutes.
