video, gotta see this

F35B Landing On USS Wasp the plane of the future....

This video link is fresh (for the public). It was made just six weeks ago in the Atlantic, just off Newport News(Hampton Roads), Virginia ..

These are the latest sea trials of the F-35B on the USS Wasp. They were very successful, with 74 VL's and STO's in a three week period. The aircraft is also stealth, and super-sonic.

The media and the program critics had predicted that we would burn holes in the deck and wash sailors overboard.

Neither of which happened. You will notice a sailor standing on the bow of the ship as the jet rotates. That was an intentional part of the sea trials.

No catapult... No hook.... Its a new world out there!

The shape and scope of warfare worldwide just changed.

Nice. Our air force has bought into the program too. We really hope it's worth it!

F35B: Overpriced, overweight, under armed and limited range!!. Over here we changed from the b to the c version for our new carriers, but now changed back to B version due to the fact that the carriers needed to be redesigned to accomodate catapults. IMHO this aircraft is already outdated when compared to what it is likely to come up against, ie PAK FA and the next generation of fighters from Asia.

We're getting the CTOL version, so better fuel capacity and combat radius than VTOL - but limited to land bases.

PAK FA - hmmm. Wonder if it measures up to the hype/propaganda ...

Karlo Kopp writes for the masses and has his own agenda. He does not have any insight nor access to the classified information that undermines his arguments. Not his fault in many ways - he just doesn't have all the facts.

His views are certainly not endorsed by anyone in authority.

My appologies, i stand corrected. Still wish we (UK) hadn't wasted our money on the B version. A lot of well informed people over here would prefer an updated Harrier to the B version, granted it does not have supersonic capability or stealth, but it makes up for that with agility, weapons payload and versatility in the field. Or an 'off the shelf' Super Hornet.

Does the F35 have supersonic capabilities? Not only on paper? I read somewhere it won't supercruise, but I do not know if that's true. If informed correctly it will bairly do mach 1 even with the burner lit

Don't forget grounded! Every time I look at the 35, no mater how cool it is, I always hear Scotty from Star Trek - "The more they overthink the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the works."

Disclaimer - It is a cool airplane and that is a cool vid!
