Area Code 661 DLG happenings (Palmdale, Tehachapi, Bakersfield, and more)

A thread to discuss DLG and F3K for those located on the wrong side of the mountains from LA, those that wish they were on the other side of the mountains from LA, or willing to drive to the area for some DLG fun.

For those that don't know where we are. http://www.allareacodes.com/661

Here is where I fly on the westside of Palmdale/Lancaster. GPS Coordinates are 34.658886, -118.252072. Also fly in the big field to the north.

Thanks for setting this up, Cory. It might be good to list some of our flying sites in the first post.

I might actually be able to fly this Friday after all. It'll just depend on how much packing I can get done in the next two days.

Very Fine Idea

Tehachapi - Lancaster - Bakersfield

Im so happy to see something like this for our area. Really looking forward to flying with more pilots. And with tasks. And with the various planes that come with their pilots.
We have a dirt field here in Bakersfield, would envy the chance to fly off of grass. What possibility do we have for that? In 661?
Im ready this Friday. And most Fridays after noon.
Here we have Maurice, Marlan, Keith, and Robby.
Looking forward to some 661 flying.
Thanks for posting Cory
John

I am available this Friday after about 11am? Who else is available and where should we meet?

Grass field in 661 country? Good one. Actually there are soccer fields in East Lancaster that are accessable. During the week they don't have much activity and they used to have a section that didn't have lights!! Other than that the only large expanses of grass are the sod farms directly under the landing pattern for the Air Force plant

Great to hear about the Antelope Valley once more.

You know when you've been too long in the Antelope Valley when... you start refering to LA as "down there"... ...you realize your favorite color is now beige... ...you quit dusting once a week, and instead shovel once a month... Just kidding!

I used to live near 50th and L-12. Whoever lives there now has let the yard go to hell.

Hope you make some converts, Corey. Hope I get out there, soon.

Yours, Greg

Did you guys get together and fly? Flew Poway today after dropping off the racing sailplane and it was not your typical Poway conditions but not easy either. Good times but 6hrs on the road starts to get old even when there is 4 hours of a contest thrown in the middle of it.

Yeah, we flew. Conditions were great, too. The wind wasn't too bad and there was lift everywhere. Only a couple of times did I actually follow a read. Most flights I'd just pop into a fast cruise and head upwind at about a 45 degree angle and 95% of the time I'd hit lift within 30 seconds. I'd usually get far enough downwind to get squirmish at around 1:30-2:00 and it'd take me the last 1:00 to get back over the field. We just flew 3:00 AULD for about 2-1/2 hours. Hope to see you there next time, Cory.
