Hi John,
I think it does always vary somewhat with the tides.. yes.
when the valve gets stuck the level gradually ( over a two week period) drops VERY low.. as it did for a month or so just before RaceWeek.. but with a valve that works normally .. you are right, the water level is supposed to remain fairly high all the time, as it's a one-way flapper valve to trap it..
I noticed last week Wed that it was only down a foot or two below the grass line ( as it was when the replacement valve was newly in place) and during RaceWeek .. but Saturday during this race it was down about 3 to 5 feet as you see here.. so perhaps the valve is acting up or the tide's been consistently low one.. not sure.. but right now it's fine for sailing like this, as long as you tack in time to avoid getting stuck ( as a couple Soling 50 guys did this weekend in the series). Good observation.. What saddens me is to swing by as I often do over lunch and see no one taking advantage of it..   JimS
