Cool
Testing Le Fish in PicaSim, the 100% free-as-in-beer R/C slope simulator

Testing Le Fish in PicaSim R/C simulator (1 min 35 sec)

Watch in 720 or 1080 resolution fullscreen for best results!

I collaborated with Danny Chapman, creator of the *free* Windows-based PicaSim R/C flying model simulator, to provide a realistic model of Le Fish, my aerobatic slope glider design. I've had a chance to give the model and PicaSim a good testing, and the results are quite impressive - I've not found a better simulator for this kind of flying - this free sim is darn near as good as Aerofly 5, and much better than RealFlight or Phoenix!!!

The best part is that PicaSim for Windows is free (as in beer)... why not check it out over at Danny's site, http://www.rowlhouse.co.uk/PicaSim

Super stoked on this! I really like Aerofly, but truth be told, PicaSim is a much better simulation for ultralight aerobatics models

Also note that you can change the time scale to make the plane fly more realistically.. I feel it's a little too fast sometimes depending on your computer's power.

Anything that looks like a joystick or gamepad to your computer can be used with PicaSim. An Xbox / Playstation controller, etc...

I have had good luck using an old RealFlight Interlink (from version G2 circa 2003/2004) as well as the Aerofly controller that came with my copy of Aerofly 5.7 (circa 2013). I've also played around with a wired XBox controller. All worked fine once configured as described below.

I believe one of these $14.99 jobs from Hobby King should work as well - I have ordered one to find out:

Regardless of what you use, before your first use with PicaSim, you will probably need to calibrate the device and then, once it's calibrated, go into PicaSim and assign the controls.

Calibration:

In Windows 7, you can either:

A) Click the Windows button and then type "joystick" (no quotes) in the "Search for programs and files" box and click the "Set up USB game controllers" from the list of options displayed, and then click the Properties tab for the device you want to calibrate

or (same result)

B) Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers > and then right click on your device and select "Game controller settings" and then the Properties tab

You can then go through the calibration process.

Assigning Controls

Danny made a nice video that explains all you need to know here:

Setting up a controller in PicaSim (7 min 55 sec)

Hope that helps,

Steve

As a Picasim Ipad user I can say its a great app. Very fun to try different planes and great for practice when I can't get out to the slope. I travel a lot and its a great game/sim for passing the time.

Sorry, it's either 80s videogame music or this boring male announcer voice:

Intro to R/C Slope Aerobatics with PicaSim (16 min 41 sec)

LOL, seriously: the only sounds in PicaSim are the wind noises, don't worry
