Laser cut micro gearboxes?

I just bought a Mini Vapor brick, and I'd like to build a little gearbox to go with it. After much frustration with stock Parkzone units, it seems like a DIY option with ball bearings and a carbon fiber shaft would be a better way to go.

Can anyone suggest an appropriate motor, bearings, gearing, and mode of construction for such a thing?

Looks nice! I was thinking something a little bit smaller - ideally, about the size and weight of the stock Vapor gearbox. The bearings are great, though.

Maybe get a Vapor cog and a J3 motor?

EDIT: Is there a similarly sized motor from Banggood or the like? PZ motors cost too darn much, and the cogs are too fragile.

Never seen a Vapor in the flesh. Is it 6mm or 7mm motor?

Lots of useful motor data here: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2009496

You might take a look at this thread. The last picture in Post #7 is of a Vapor/Ember replacement gearbox.

If nothing else the thread might give you some ideas for your own gearbox design.

Acetal is a very clever choice. I'll see if I can find some

I'm wondering if some of the can motors from tiny quadcopters might perform as well or better than their PZ counterparts.

6mm, though I'm not averse to a short 8 if it's the best option...

I've purchased little IR controlled helicopters in department stores for as little as $12, on sale.

The latest one has the two drive motors, which will power a Playmate type plane, and it also has a small tail rotor oriented to lift or lower the tail. I'll use that with the IR control for a throttle-only indoor plane. So for 12 bux I got a 1S cell, two drive motors, the IR "radio" and the tiny tail motor with prop. That's pretty cheap.
