Southorpe - Lost village of Northamptonshire UK
Aerial photography carried out in April 2013.
These images are from and outlying village called Southorpe; originally developed from a farmstead outside of Warmington in Northamptonshire. The village was reduced to just 2 buildings in the 17th century due to depopulation.
Earthworks in the nearby fields show the outlines of the old boundary walls and the original open fields system called ridge and furrow.
Image 1413 shows the only remaining houses from that time (Right Side- Left side are modern). The Domesday Book indicates that the road shown here was once lined with houses like the one pictured. Now all that remains are the outlines of their walls.
One image is annotated to give a better indication of what the markings on the ground mean. Do not read to much into the accuracy of the annotations; the were done by me based on memory from what i was told while on site.
All images were captured using a MikroKopter HexaXL carrying a Sony NEX-5R running in 'intelligent auto+' mode. Controlled by a StratoSnapper set to a 1 second delay.
