OS Max 30 -S engine

I assume OS doesn't make the 30 MAX -S anymore. I just picked one up to use in an old MEN Trainer. The trainer calls for a .15 to .25 engine. It has a 58 inch wing span and the wing is of an undercamber design. Supposedly, the plane weighs about 3.5 pounds. I still have to cover it yet and add servos etc. Anyways, anyone know about this engine? I am going to have to find a muffler for it too.

They're a very good older engine but be warned, it uses an iron piston and absolutely needs at least 25% all castor in the fuel. The weak point in these engines actually is the big end of the conrod. With less than 25% all castor the bush wears out quite fast (actually from memory the rod isn't bushed but runs plain aluminium). Also they're a bushed crankshaft and neither of my Max-S 35's have a steel shim behind the thrust washer so either hand start it or be very gentle with an electric starter.

I've got two of those 30s. Easy starting, pretty reliable, but less power than my Fox 25s. They would probably be adequate for that MEN trainer. Just remember they are lapped iron pistons and definitely need losts of CASTOR. This type of engine can overheat and wear out the liner/piston area FAST.
