Question
Changing my focus a bit. Need opinions..

Well, i had planned to do a skywalker fpv setup. And i had purchased EVERYTHING for it. Well, i sold my skywalker and am looking to do a fpv quad instead.

Since flight times are short i dont need all the long range stuff i had bought i dont think.. Im pretty much just planning to stay around the property here..

My questions are:
Will i be okay with my DX8 for flying around the property (10acres)? I dont need a long range radio right?

What about an osd? I have one but do i really need it? haha

Id like to keep things simple here.

So basically, what do i NEED for a short range FPV quad?

You Need:

A Radio That Can Go 10 Acres

A Quad (Any Will Do)

A VTX that can fly 10 Acres

To tell us what FPV kit you have

To Wait Longer than a few hours before you put ??????

----

Quads are hit and miss with range, the spacing of the electronics inside the the bit that makes or breaks a FPV quad, you need to get the VTX as far away as you can from the Rx and ESC

You NEED to let people know more to help...

If i asked you this:

I just brought a Gun what ammo do i NEED for it...

You would reply with....?

I have the foxtech 5.8ghz 200mw tx and rx video system.
Cloverleaf and skew planar antennas.
Using a dx8 for a tx....

Your DX8 will be perfect. 10 acres is pretty close by!

But as a guy who flies multicopters and planes, myself ... I recommend going back to flying planes (faster, more exciting and the battery charge lasts last way longer). I prefer to just use a super simple OSD with multicopters, showing voltage and flight time. The thing flies slow and I am usually pretty low, and can quickly yaw myself around to get the lay of the land. In fact I have mothballed my $1300 quad and have more fun flying $500 planes, but then if I lived in a neighbourhood with less trees and less water, I might fly it more often.

Well i guess something that concerns me is the thought of losing the plane and all the electronics. I live in pretty rugged terrain and its all private land. If the plane goes down it may not be possible to recover. Or even find for that matter.
I will get into planes but for now id just like to fly around the property and get a feel for fpv in general.

What about something like a small flying wing or slow stick? They're cheap and will fly in a small area easily.
