Anyone tried using Kylon Short cuts rattle can paint? I used the Fl. Orange on my Freestyle and after it dried it kind of like comes off like dust if you rub against it with your hand (found out during the assembly of the foam). I also used just some no name black and fl. yellow I had lying around and those seem fine so far. I'll take a photo of it and post it later tonight. I copied the WMPF paint scheme for the top, and the 3dhs AJ Slick blocks for the bottom I added some addiitonal cf bracing from the fuse to the wings, and extended the wing spar about 2 more inches, and added an epp tail skid to protect the rudder. I'll have it ready to go next week, waiting on the motor to arrive. I can't wait to see it in the air and put it though it's paces. My previous FancyFoam Edge was fun, but it was getting too heavy from glue repairs, and brittle from using Welders, so I retired it. I used Beacon Foam Tac for this build. I like it better than Welders, it stays clear (no yellowing in the sun), and stays flexible .

My setup:
1-9g Htx servo on the ailerons
2- 6g Power HD DSM44's for the tail (they are digital mg, and super fast).
Motrofly 2205-1750kv on 2s in calm winds and 3s for windy days and crazy power. Everything I've read is that's the motor to go with, same weight as the Turnigy, but much more power.

I had the exact same thing happen with the orange. I have been using the shortcuts for years and this is the only time I have had a problem.

Thread seems to have died, I thought there would be more interest in these since Winter is around the corner and folks will be moving to indoor flying. I just finished up shooting a thin coat of Lustercote clear that I had on hand over the fl. orange paint. I hope that helps keep it from turning into powder, we shall see when it dries .

Yea, we are just starting to get in to indoor mode here. It is finally getting cold. Working on a new paint scheme for the kits. Need to get it done.

Hey all...I plan on buying the 42" freestyle soon, but I have a few questions first.

1) 1.5lb or 1.9lb epp?
2) I plan on using a 72g omega and 3s 1300mah...what size prop should I use?

I think that's all for now...thanks in advance!

1) Where are you going to fly it? If outdoors, I recommend the 1.9 and landing gear.

2) Can't help. Don't know that motor - kV, watts, etc.

Thanks for the response, Rick! I was worried that I was poking at a dead thread...

Omega 72g motor specs:

Peak amps-40
Peak watts-425
Weigt-72 grams
Kv-1100

Also, yes I plan on flying outside. Further info: I have a twisted hobbys 45a esc (sbec) and 4x twisted hobbys mg65 servos, all of which shall go into this airplane. The batteries, aero-model 3s 1300mah 30c, weigh 104g or 3.667 ounces each.

All equipment is from an ill-fated 3dhs 40" EPP Edge...

You will be fine with the 1.9lb. It is a little stiffer airframe. I would only recommend the 1.5 if someone is trying to build a light one with a 50g motor.

Awesome, thanks!

Another quick question: what is the wing area on this plane (42 inch)?

You are going to do a little trial and error. The prop will be somewhere between 9 and 11 inches. Slow flying, so don't use a prop with lots of pitch. 3 - 4 should be OK.

Start with the smaller and increase the size until the motor gets warm.

Ok, thanks!

One more question: How much does the airframe of the 1.9lb epp version weigh by itself?

Shipping weight is 1.5 pounds. Don't know if that includes the carton.
