Candidate Servos for 32-in EPP Planes

Hi guys,

I've been looking for servos for 32-in EPP 3D planes. I've been a long time user of Towerpro 5-gram servos. They are cheap and pretty reliable. (Is the little blue HXT500 the same, BTW?) I am sure there are other similar ones. Such servos should be good candidates for building 32-in 3D planes.

Now, EPP planes can last a LONG time. This is especially true if we are talking about EPP profilers. To match their longevity, using metal gear servos on them seems to be a logical choice. There are two disadvanges that I can think of about metal gear servos: 1) they tend to be more expensive; and 2} they are a little heavier.

I am building a Skywing 32-in Slick. I plan to fly it for a long time. I am therefore willing to pay a little more for the servos to save the trouble to replace them in the future. And since I am going to fly the plane outdoor a lot, I am not striving to the build the lightest Skywing 32-in Slick.

I am testing Power HD DSM44 for the above-mentioned reasons.

Here's a video of the servos driven by a servo tester:

What do you think?

Best regards,

feda

I use Futaba 3114 , and 3117 for ailerons , never failed or gear striped.
A little more expensive, but you can feel the difference ; )

Regards!

Good centering, no need to remove it if it fails, do not break gears, faster response time, better built, consume less.
I used HXT and Futaba is better in my opinion. I used Hitec, but I prefer Futaba.
For a few bucks more is a good deal for me ; )

Maybe, it's because you don't have nasty crashes. Good for you!

I've installed the aileron servos. Let's see the little servos in action:

What do you think? Do you have anything better to suggest?

I used to use HS-55's but they stripped too easy. I also started using the HXT-500's on my cheaper 30"ish EPP parkflyers/3D planes and my EPP Combat planes, because of the price and they seem ok, but still stripped sometimes.
On my good planes, I've always used the GWS Pico 6G servo.
With having well over 100 parkflyers using the 5-6g servo, most all of Pico servos are still working in the planes I still have left! I don't even recall a bad one.
I still have a couple dozen EPP planes running the Picos, for the last 10 years, with a easy 300+ flights on most of them.
I still have a couple Combat Boomers, with many impacts and and haven't changed the Pico servos yet.
I've even got them in most of my 40" EPP planes and a Hacker SuperZoom.

Man those things look pretty good to me. I like to use dual servo's on the wings as well and these sure look to do the job, hopefully they are durable enough. Keep us posted as you test them.

When you fly in a tight space, you'd better have reliable servos:

When it comes to servos there is only one brand I trust. Hitec! Not only do you get good quality servos, but you get hitec USA's great CS. I use two HS-45HB servo for the tail and one HS-65HB servo for the ailerons. they are all I use on 32'' epp birds. below is a video of me hucking my 32'' epp yak with those servos.
