V-Tail, Composite for a TWF Project Plane

Looking for a glass or carbon v-tail; just the tail for a 60" span pitcheron plane project I am putting together. Wide root, 5-6" and from 8-10" per tail. Preferably a one piece tail with screw/bolt on configuration for a flat deck. Any color ok. Ideally w/o moving elevators.

Please let me know what you have....maybe something from a busted plane and better looking than the balsa tail I made.

The plane consists of the following:

SAMURAI fuse
ROTOR wings
Ward Hagaman servo tray

Thanks,
Adam

If all else fails call Annette at SUSA and let her know what your trying to do. Bob usually has some extra parts around. Something like a Banana v-tail, its a molded one piece. Or maybe someone here has one left over from a crash.

Or build a jig and vac a one piece tail, might work, and you could match the wings.

Just a thought.

If you bagged those wings I would give the jig and vac thing a whirl.

Just build a jig out of ply at 105 to 110 degrees and set it up with tacky around the outside and a piece of vacuum film. You could connect the two tails with carbon in layers and micro balloons. You would just need to make a connector mold to lay up over.

Sound like something I might try myself.

Or check out Adam's video here:

Bagging Balsa Tails for an RC Glider (21 min 21 sec)

You could use some biad cut aramid for your elevator hinge. Pretty slick and easy.

Adam,

I have a 2M Carbon Blade V tail. The elevators are good. The V tail was glassed on the fuse by the pervious owner and that portion is still attacked to the base of the tail.

LMK if this works for you.

Sand the tail you made to a nice airfoil shape and bag em. Take the white and red full flying stab I have and cut it down, then glue it back the length and angle you want.

Jim, thanks for posting the video. All my bagging stuff is I'm storage. One of these days I'll get it out.

Ray, the BLADE 2M tail seems a bit large. I have an OPUS fuse and v-tail that would be about the same size. Thanks for the offer. Still looking for an OPUS wing though

Mo, the 3m tails, cut down would probably do the trick, but looking for something just about ready to go so I sent a message to Bob at SUSA. Let's see what he has in the 60" tail range.

Thanks all.

Adam don't give up. TWF are a whole differerent art form, and are awesome in and among themselves. After years of flying everything from F3F to smaller things, from warbirds to 60" full house, wingerons and pitcherons are just plain fun to build and fly.

FWIW,

Jim

Maybe with a three piece wing? Flat center section and removeable tips with a little dihedral; very WHIP-like and easy to transport. The one piece 2m wings are tough to move around. If you decide to build a "test" wing, LMK

Looks like I have a solution for this project plane. My friend Dave went ahead and bagged some parts for me. I'll use one of the tail sets and make it removable with screws.

Thanks for all the suggestions!
