Pitts Special S-1 Scale Drawings Now Availible
After numerous inquiries, I am happy to report that the drawings for my scratch-built Pitts S-1 are now available to purchase. The price is $45 + shipping and handling.
This set of three drawing sheets are hand drawn by the designer and builder of the prototype, my father Fred Ludtke, and are scaled from the original full size Pitts S1-E home build drawings (left over from a full size build). As a result, it looks and flies very much like the full scale airplane.
Scaled for 3" wheels, which we believe is the minimum size to fly from fairways and school yard grass, this Pitts has great in-air visibility, is easy to transport, and doesn't bust the wallet to build or equip.
The Pitts Special was common in the RC world many years ago as gas models, but you don't see them much anymore. There are some electric foamy's out there, but they are far from scale representations. These days, the Pitts Special is extremely uncommon airplane model. This design will result in a very accurate and authentic airplane.
Here is a flight video, please excuse my rusty thumbs:

Currently on the drawing board, and under construction, is a 1/5 scale clipwing Monocoupe 110 Special. Scaled from original Monocoupe factory drawings (also left over from previous build), the prototype model will fly this spring, and drawings will be availible shortly after. More to come...

The Pitts Special has been one of my favorite airplanes for many years. I built one from scratch around 1953 from Air Trails magazine plans. If I recall correctly, it had a 26" wingspan and was powered by an Ohlson <SP?> 29.
I watched Betty Skelton fly her "Li'l Stinker" on several occasions. Two of her trade mark stunts were a snap roll on take-off and an inverted ribbon-cut.
Her plane is currently on display in the Smithsonian near Dulles Airport. She died at age 85 in 2011. She was a remarkable woman.

I might be purchasing both drawings once everything is finalized! Always LOVED the Pitts and Monocoupe. The 1/5 will go great with the true 1/4 scale plan set that I have and the Durafly Monocoupe that I just got.
