1/2 oz CF cloth

Why doesn't, or why can't, someone make a 1/2 oz CF cloth?

There is a CF Scrim, the CL Stunt guys use it a lot for surface finish.

At CST it is called cabon tissue or viel, they have it in .2oz/yd2 or .5oz/yd2.

Go to www.cstsales.com/carbon_tissue.html

Half ounce carbon fiber cloth would be great stuff, but I've never seen any. Even better would be half ounce unidirectional carbon. The so called "tissue" is probably very nice for making a fine finish, but its mechanical properties are lousy, since the fibers aren't straight and the stuff is mostly air, which is replaced with epoxy.

CF is somewhat lighter than glass, as well as much stiffer. Typically 20mpsi vs. 6mpsi, if memory serves, but there are higher modulus versions of both.

With such positive properties, and need/desire for it, why isn't somebody producing it? Instead of using light FG to "glass" a fuse, I'd like to use light weight CF to "fiber" a fuse. Somebody please start making it.

If you line up a million or so RC modellers, so you can order as much carbon as goes into an airliner, maybe they'll make the stuff for you!

If you make the wood part just a form, and have the carbon take the load, you could use the 2.4 oz carbon cloth that IS available. However, it would be far better to use two layers of unidirectional cloth.

I understand that the mechanical properties of spread tow may be somewhat better than regular woven cloth, and maybe you can get it in lighter weights, too.
