Cleveland Models Kit 77.25" ws B-17G 1/16 scale

A friend of my son's and I are starting work on a Cleveland Models B-17G kit. Wingspan 77.25" all up weight without motors/electronics/servos/batteries should be around 6# when sheeted. Was designed for 4 .19's so thinking we need to go with around 1100-1400 watts total power turning 9050 three bladed props (CW/CCW) and running 1 battery for 2 motors and separate battery for servos/receiver. Plan on controls for: Rudder, Elevator, Flaps, Ailerons, Retracts and if I can figure out how to do it Bomb-bay doors. Input on power requirements welcomed as we have only built things that have been designed for electric and nothing this big.

This kit was probably intended for control line flying or display. Adding weight of RC stuff, retracts, etc., plus sheeting to cover stringers, etc., may make the model too heavy and stall- prone to fly in a slow bomber-like manner. Take a look at Pat Tritle's B-17 and some of the similar size foamy B-17's from Hobby King, etc. You may want to build light for flyability vs heavier for scale appearance

Most motors designated as 480 size with a kv around 900 would spin the 3 blader you mentioned and make 250-300 watts each on 3s.
I'd use 40a esc's just to have a good safety margin. 4000/3s/30c batteries should deliver the amps required. If you have room, 5000mah wouldn't hurt.
I highly recommend Turnigy Plush esc's with their programming card. I also like the new SK motor series. fwiw Doug B
