DBlum Cessna 182 Build Thread - Brushless w/ Ailerons, Flaps, Lighting

Hey guys,

I am scratch building a Cessna 182 from plans by Dave Blum, sourced from these forums. I built one of these years ago, but have been dormant from the hobby (during those college years) until the past 4 months or so. After building a couple planes though, I have been bitten again by the modelling bug and am back on track.

This thread will detail the construction of the Cessna. I have modified it from the original design in a few ways: The original had no flaps or ailerons, so I am adding those to the wings. The original was powered by a GWS IPS 'A' size motor, but I am bumping up the motor size to an Eflite Park 370 on 2 Lipo cells. Generally, its being built beefier to handle the extra weight being added to it... the tail surfaces are now built from 1/4 x 1/8th stock, the fuselage sides don't have lightening holes cut into them, and the wings are constructed with a solid trailing edge stock instead of forming the TE from two sheets of 1/32 balsa.

The lighting system is coming from DIYRC.com, the "mini flash" model.. the plane will feature strobes and solids at the wingtips, a rudder strobe, back tail light, and landing lights. The servo setup will be elevator, rudder, two servos for ailerons, and one servo to control both flaps (linked in the center).

Tonight I completed the aileron on the left wing, the internal servo mount for it, and I constructed the landing light bay in the side of the left wing. On to the right wing this weekend!

You're right, I might have to get plans for that one next.

Paul,
Looks great. I have his 180 from the kit. I wish it had flaps. I taped some balsa ones on mine. Here is a video of it.
