I'm ok wo buying the castle link as I just want the default 5.1v (not using high volt servos)-- right?

6.3v gives you a faster stronger non HV servo... I would strongly consider bumping the voltage up.

Finally building my Extra EXP. Almost done.

Does everyone think it is absolutely necessary to open the bottom of the fuselage for air exhaust? Someone at a local field decided not to do it and reports no increased temperatures, and the plane does look nicer (and ostensibly flies nicer too)

Edit: Also, I will be running my 7245MHs at 8.0v, but HiTec's specs seem to specify a 7.4v limit on voltage. Is that not right?

I noticed 20F difference in motor temp from 1 flight, when I forgot to cut mine out... Plus it will cool the battery.

On the servos... I conformed from mike at Hitec their HV servos are designed to run off of a fully charged lipo. I set mine to 8.2v to simulate sag. A BEC will have some sag to, I just never needed any more speed or power then 8.2.

A couple of years ago, I started using the CC 10-amp separate BEC so I could bump the voltage to my servos up to 6 volts from the 5 volts the Turnigy Plush speed controls I'd been using (with great success) supplied.

The difference was phenomenal. Every plane I did this on "woke up" instantly. In some cases it was like it was a whole new plane.

You really need to go to 6 volts. It makes a very significant difference.

According to the manufacturer, older versions had a bec that wasn't so great when used with 6s (apparently newer versions are ok?).

I took a pic of mine, but it looks the same as all the others on the web. Does anyone know how to tell the difference? Note I have the older version of the motor, so I'm running the smaller 15x6 prop size.

I'd like to get some flights in this weekend, but I'm a little spooked.

If it comes to it, any suggestions for a bec?

Thanks,

I recommend BEC WESTERN ROBOTICS !

Perfect !
better than castle Creation !

I'm still waiting for a replacement stab and elevator - broke mine while building - so I haven't flown yet.

But I did do a partial fitting of all the parts and installed all the electronics and balanced the plane.

It felt extremely heavy though, so I weighed it and my AUW seems to be 6.2 pounds. Way heavier than any of my other EXPs, even though part by part it's got the same electronics as my old Laser EXP.

Ice Lite 100, CC BEC, 3300Mah 6s battery, torque MK2, 7245s all around, etc.

I was expecting more like 5 or 5.5 pounds.

What's everyone's AUW?

With essentially the same component list as yours except for two 3S 3300 batteries in series:

Laser: 6 lbs., 3 oz.
Edge: 6 lbs., 4 oz.
MXS: 6 lbs., 6 oz.
