Thanks for the support guys, I didn't mean to turn this thread into a vent, so sorry about that. Things are looking a little better and I'm hopeful we will make it and be happy together.
As far as the power supply kits, I may make more, but it won't be this week. I've been looking at building a kit for the dell 6650 power supplies because they are rated for 72 amps and they already have a floating dc-, however they don't use a common power cable, they are much bigger/heavier and there isn't a convenient way to mount terminals on it. I'm still looking into connectors and things to make it work. The goal is to have a power supply kit that doesn't require any soldering. I think many people are cool with assembling something, but don't want to do much in the way of building. I'll keep you all posted. schu |

I agree. I have looked at really large power supplies too but non-standard (and $$) cords are a show stopper. I have 100 of the 'quiet mode' versions of this power supply coming. The fan seems to be thermostatically controlled so it does not run fast all the time. The case is different too in its assembly. I'd like to see if the insides are different.

Got your Kit Today
Got your kit in the mail along with my Y power cord today, sadly I wont have time to put it together till the weekend but it looks like it should be no problem.
I'm glad to hear things are going better for you with everything else! Thanks! |

So any update on the Dell 6650 project? Or is the 2 ESP 135-600PB still a better way to go? I'm just starting this project/research as I can't afford a $250 PS for my iCharger 306B. I can get 2 of the ESP135 locally for $30 used, figure it should provide enough power for what I'm doing. I also like that you can run this setup just as a 12v source as well.

It depends...
The HP power supplies can't be wired in series without floating the dc- or AC ground. So from that perspective they aren't that great, but they are a bit smaller, use a common power cord, and because of how they are made you can make them into a really nice unit which is why I started building/selling kits. It gives me a way to give back to the RC community and provide a product for those that want to bolt stuff together while at the same time converting some of my time into some rc funds. If you want absolute full power then go with the dell, but if you want portable then stick to the HP. If you don't want to deal with the funky power cord then go HP, if you don't want to deal with floating a ground then get the dell. Since you can get the HP locally, I would just go that route. |
