Mercury Cobra

Just finished my scratch built Mercury Cobra.

It has an increased wingspan of 42inches (extra 2inch rib bay on the inside wing)

Adjustable leadouts, carbon fibre pushrod with adjustable metal clevis at the elevator.

Engine is an older Thunder Tiger 25 modified with a Enya 19 delrin venturi and a OS 20/25fp needle valve. Top Flite 9x4 wooden propeller to begin, modify as needed.

The engine has good compression so it should run well. >fingers crossed<

Home made metal fuel tank, approx 3oz capacity.

Rattle can purple paint with Nitro fuel proof clear over top. White plastic film on top wing covering, blue and white check film on the bottom.

Hand crafted "Cobra" decal.

Weight is 29oz which I am very happy with!!

I was just looking for pics of this model and found yours, looks great! I am about to build one and am interested in how it went in the air with a 25 bolted on?

Cheers

Azryl, that came out very well. At 29oz it should fly sweet.

When's the big test flight? If your weather is like up the road here you could be waiting a week.

Given the date of the photos and original post, there was plenty of time to fly it over two years ago before weather made things unpleasant (it was April, when does winter close things down where he is, anyway?)

Oops - I never looked at the date.

I live not far from Azryl (90 minutes) - nights have been 0C or below, days only in single digits and cold rain and wind for the next week. I can see the snow in the mountains.

Anyway, it would be nice to hear how the model flew.

I'm not very familiar with metric temps. I know zero is freezing = 32 F. Here, we hit 100 F for the first two times yesterday and today . . we've actually had a mild summer until now.

P. S. I was only six months old when I left NZ, and despite my earnest wishes, never could afford a vacation visit back there.

Ack.. sorry guys... I missed updating this thread

It *DID* fly very well... until the elevator clevis broke in flight
airplane hit ground.... the ground won!

I will rebuild it some time, first I will need to dig the dirt/grass out of the engine and clean it

Was nice to fly... taught me inverted flight and horizontal eights

Az

P.S I have been flying every week since this original post

Oh man, thats' a shame, and whats worse is you found out the hard way that RC gear doesn't seem to last very long on control liners.

Another?
