New Tx? Two words: FrSky Taranis

If you are technically/computer inclined and plan to stay and grow in this hobby for a while (and get lots of models), I can heartily recommend getting a FrSky Taranis Tx and a FlySky RF module (FS FS-TH9X-B-Module). Add a JR compatible DSM Tx module and you can fly all your Blade and Horizon Hobby models as well. In other words, for less than $300 you will have a future-proof system that can do more than the systems costing more than $2000.

The most important thing is that if you plan to move up to CP helis, you need to get a radio with a THROTTLE HOLD switch and start programming your brain to use it. (Slamming the throttle stick down in an emergency is a VERY BAD HABIT that you will just need to un-learn later.)

Just my 0.02

The Taranis no doubt is a great TX but I find all the modules to be cumbersome and bulky. I do like OpenTX and I feel it will be around for a long time.
I went the other route and chose the Devo10, after you flash the firmware (free) you instantly get DSM2/DSMX without any module installed. Add in the A7105 & NRF240L01 module and you get frysky & KN protocol. These modules are soldered into the main board of the TX so you don't have to mess with installing each modules externally. A little soldering know how is required if you choose this route. This cost me less than $135.

Has anyone seen any benefit to adding weight to the nose of the v911 to help its flight characteristics?

How much weight does the cf main shaft save? Is it noticeable in flight?

What would benefit this bird more, the 9e solo pro motor or the CF shaft?

Are there any other ways to remove weight?

The CF shaft doesn't produce noteworthy change in flight characteristics.

Get a bit of blu-tak and add-subtract to the nose until you're happy. Personally I'm ok with how my heli behaves after the mechanical trim but a bit of nose weight is fun when flying outside.

If you want a more agile behaviour indoors, you just need to setup Mode 2, place the srvo horns on the outside holes and place the rotor links on the longest connectors. If you remove even more weight, even a slight breeze will affect flying outside.

.........
The added weight in the nose helps in outdoor flight.

It's not so much the CF shaft as it is the fisheye swash that helps the responsiveness of the heli.....

The swash plate is on the list.

I didnt think about making it too light to deal with wind.

The reason Im asking (Trust me, my personal copter will get it all)Im trying to get my nephew involved to take his mind off some personal issues hes having. Im trying to decide how to help him "Build up" his heli step by step as his interest/skills grow.

So with that in mind, what order do you guys think would benefit this scenario?

The Solo pro motor ans swash plate are definitely on the short list, I just dont want for him to spend money and suffer the wait only to be disappointed and lose interest ordering parts that wont have much impact.

0.44g = V911 Carbon shaft, ring collar, screw
1.38g = V911 original metal shaft, ring collar, screw
1.40g = V911 FishEye swashplate with bottom bearings and upper brass bushing
0.97g = V911 original swashplate with bottom bearings (they do not have the upper brass bushing)

V911 carbon shaft and FishEye swashplate make a very noticeable flight improvement, mostly more control stability.

I changed both the original swashplate and shaft, saving half a gram, then.
Changing paddles made the biggest difference to me, I didnt really notice anything switching to the fisheye. It looks better engineered though.

Does anyone in the US have a good used receiver board they want to part with?

I know their available and cheap, but it is a time issue, I dont want to wait for shipping from overseas, not that it would kill me.

The Banggood US Warehouse sells them for around $13, with free shipping, I believe.

If you have the time though, it's better just to buy a complete BNF Pro from China for $20. A lot of extra parts for a small amount of extra money. JMHO.

You might try asking on the "Cheap Heli Bricks in Planes" thread, too.

Thanks, Ill look into that.

Next question.

I just binded (Bound?) my new FS TH9X to this bird and cant quite get full throttle throw/input.

Hover is near 3/4 stick throw and it lacks power and flights are short.

Do I correct this via the sub trim menu? I watched a YT tutorial on how to set this up and they recommended from -30 to -50 sub trim settings to start.

This got me flying, but throttle input seems slow and like Im not getting full throttle to pull up out of a fall....If that makes sense.

Do I need to switch on dual rates or mess with throttle curves?

Any help on settings and configuration greatly appreciated.
