Rabbit at Apollo flying field

A human friendly rabbit resides under storage container at Apollo model airport in Los Angeles.

My wife brings food for him every morning. He eats from the hand. His most favorate food is peach.

I don't know where he came from. There are many wild bunnies living at the grassy field at airport but they are shy and don't come near people.
This rabbit is tame. He must have been a pet rabbit which was abandoned here by his owner.

Every kind people gives him scrap of foods, so he will never starve.

Why do I feel bad for laughing at that, just after reading the nice story?

A campground we often go to in NE PA is "home" to several large, friendly rabbits. According to the owner, someone let a few pet rabbits loose in the area several years ago, and they've interbred with the local bunnies. One thing they seem to have inherited is a total lack of fear of humans (although they DO leave our area when we're walking our beagle, elderly though she is).

A family friend owned an island, and he introduced rabbits, then left them for two years to breed. Then he set up hides overlooking each beach, and shot the rabbits when they ventured out of their burrows. When the rabbits finally got wise, he just moved to the next beach. Even with all out hel though, the rabbits kept increasing, so he had to introduce mixomatosis (sp). Jeez it was fun

At our local airfield we constantly have a couple of Bunny families and last few years a pair of lapwings, all actually trying to take over tha field; They walk out on the strip while we are flying and won't budge an inch unless we get really close, not that we do by purpose - I assume they decided to "move in" since we keep the fox away....

We also have a Kestrel staying and quite a few buzzards passing through or more likely coming back again and again - the field is right next to and area of meadows, and they take advantage of the motorized planes scaring up mice, etc. Even had a sparrowhawk hanging around for a number of weeks this summer......

That rabbit is going to make a damn happy hawk one day. The adjacent field is filled with the bones of his brothers.

Our local municipal airport had a terrible problem with those cute little furballs. They were everywhere! It got to be a big problem because they were burrowing under every building and chewing a lot of wires and cables underneath cars parked at the terminal. People would come back from vacation and have no brakes! There are a lot of coyotes out there too, but they couldn't keep up with all of them. Finally the airport had to trap them....there aren't nearly as many now. Before, the ground was literally crawling with them!

Sure is a cute little bugger. Definitely looks domesticated.
