Great Day of Classic Flying

I just spent all day today flying my H-9 Phoenix 7. It was a perfect day for flying and I must have got in 10 or 12 flights. A lot of old brain cells that have been dormant for 30 years started to pop back to life. Like how important aileron throws and differential were to these designs. How you don't pull tight corners with them as they just don't track through that like today's designs. How getting into a rhythm and letting everything flow makes everything look so much better. How if I had a JR 12X back in 1978 I would have been a god!

This flying is just so much fun! We have got to get more events and get Classic really rolling! How about a traveling Classic Pattern Nationals? Have it in Muncie every other year but in the off year move it to the West Coast, to the East Coast, to the South. Wouldn't that be fun!

Tony,

Glad to hear you had fun... In 2012 there where 18 classic pattern events and the classic pattern NATS is one of the goals of the Classic Pattern Association.

It would be cool to have a 2 or 3 day event...

stay tuned for some important information with CPA.

Hi Tony,
I'm jealous. I flew the MD-80 23 hours this week. It's not the same.
A moving Classic Nats would be really cool. Especially the moving part.

ARRGGHH!! It was killing me all weekend reading this post over and over, whilst doing my family "duties" this past holiday weekend, dreaming of the pure FREEDOM that is classic pattern flying.

This weekend is my turn at the sticks! I will be camping at a secret dry lake location, the P-7 burning through the desert sky from my private airfield. Gotta find the groove and the flow that you know so well.

I hope that all of you get to the field soon and enjoy the deep satisfaction that comes from spending a day with your classic bird!

Come on up and camp out at the Tailwinds! I'm always looking for another excuse to go flying.

Not yet. Still doing some rebuilding on the garage. But it will be soon on the building board! I want to have it ready for my AMA/Classic meet on February 9th and 10th.

At my private runway....

I had some quality time with my P-7 last weekend. Here are some links to some sketchy video and a few pics. N-joy.

It was stinkin' chilly with that breeze a'blowin'. I love my fuzzy Russian hat. It's my second most favorite way to keep my ears warm.
