These things look like a lot of fun.

Thanks.
The cg should be at, or in front of the point where all the arms would cross. I fly with the cg just ahead of that point. Anything behind that point is not good at all. Yes, the motors should be placed on the circumference at 120degree spacing.

I flew my large foam tricopter on the telebees today. I like them alot, but the throttle is too sensitive around mid range. I will try to set up the pitch curve today.

New "Big" all carbon Hex-copter

Hi Guys,

Just thought I would put up a couple of pix of my new large all carbon hexcopter.

It is about a third bigger that the original seen a few pages back. Size is 58inch diameter, but is still super light at 49oz with Two 2500 30c lipo packs, and alloy/carbon undercarriage.

You can get some idea of just how big it is by the TX for comparison and the fact that the 10 inch props look a bit lost. I have some of the new carbon 14 x 4 coming once I get it flying right, as they are too expensive to break.

Just waiting for the 3 telebees I have ordered to arrive and the PC lead for the cyclock mixer.

Will get some video up as soon as I get it flying right.

Best Regards
Nex

Hey Nex

Flew the foamanator again with the telebees. It is great! the only problem I'm having now is the sensitivity of the throttle. It seems all the throttle movement happens in a 15 degree area of the stick. I have messed with the pitch curves and it is working better, but not as good as the GWS pg-03's. But the rest of the flying is much better. lots of stability, can even go to full throttle off, drop for a while, then power on and fly away! I am down to 32 oz with battery ( from 42oz with the other foam frame) flies much better.

How do you make a hex body or and oval body cover for the electrics?

foam and tape, what more can you ask for?! I am making a canopy for this now to bling it up a bit. I also have carbon weave sign vinyl I may cover the next one in that. Half hour build ( scavenged the parts and wire harness from another tri) It actually glides a bit in forwad flight descents.

Hi Lazer

Make a cardboard template, draw that on a bit of polyfoam underfloor insulation board. Then spend a while cutting and sanding / hollowing it out it to shape, when happy, cover with glasscloth and epoxy resin, Allow to harden, and sand with wet and dry car paper to a nice smooth finish and paint to colour choice with car arcylic spray paint. Keep it as light as possible.

Hey Signguy/Bas10an,

Good to hear that the telebees are doing their stuff.

Sebastian: You have never mentioned the issue of throttle smoothness that Signguy is having problems with! Is this because you are using the Cyclock mixer that is smoothing everything out ? or something else.

Best Regards

Signguy; You are onto something with foam n'tape. Well done. This is an under $300 and under 900 gram Tri. that flies!
Do you have any comments on on-board mixing as Sebastian uses VS TX mixing such as you use.
I have a new Y-UFO, lots of stability problems.

Weird, I have never experienced anything odd about the throttle with the 'bees, at the contrary, I find them the smoothest I've tried so far.

Obvious, but do you have ATV at max on the 'bees? And done the ESC throttle calibration?

I actually prefer the 120 deg. setup with TX mixing that Bob also uses, it's more stable, also cheaper and lighter.

I do have the atv on max, and just did the calibration with and without the gyros in the system. The problem I'm haveing is with the throttle being too sensitive right around hover power. And also, the throttle starts at just under half stick. I find myself descending with no power, then too much power at the end shoots me back into the air!I have been messing with the pitch curves, and will see if end points on my throttle in the radio will work.

Thanks Sebastian

List of items & cost

3 telebees $29 each from hobby city
3 super simple 30 amp speed controls $ 10 each from HC
3 DT 750 motors $12 HC
1 E-sky rate gyro $15 r2hobbies
1 full size servo ( old had it around ) $12 new now
1 pkg deans connectors $7 HC
1 pkg 3.5mm speed control connectors $7 HC
1 meter of wire ? around $6
1 short carbon rod/aluminum sheet for pivot mechanism $8 ?
1 roll 2"wide glass strap tape $5
1 sheet of dow high load foam 2"x24"x96" enough for lots of tricopters FREE ! but would probably cost $20 if you can get 1" blue regular (not high load) foam for $11, but you'll need some bamboo skewers or arrow shafts for strength.
$224 total without radio, if you have nothing to start with. Add $25 for various shipping, and you're still under $250. Add the 6 ch 2.4 ghz radio from r2hobbies and you are almost at $300 ready to fly. 3 hour build, a couple hours of setup, and you're done.

crashes cost you almost nothing!!
Thats the best part!

Hi Guys.

Thanks for sharing all this great stuff.....very informative.

Am completing my CF lightweight build (Designed by Bas10an - Thanks dude, sorry to keep you burning the midnite oil in the workshop) and I need some clarification on TX setup and programming:

Basically I get it this far:

120 degree swash mix, no throttle. A, E and P channel each connect to corresponding gyro/esc/motor.

The three telebees signal wires are connected to throttle signal, and gyro gain is controlled by a flat throttle curve? How much gain. (Rate mode is everything below 50 percent gain, right?)

What are mixing values for A, E and P? Normally I would start at 60 percent, but 30 percent for A and E was suggested by Bas10an earlier.

Build/setup

1.5 mm CF body/motor struts/tail mechanism - Nylon blocks to mount motors

Body is basically Bas10ans collapsable V 3.5 design, based around the square 10 mm Alu tube.

3*10 A Supersimple ESC
3*Telebee 302-AD
Colco GY400, GY401B or Imax G192 for tail -
HD 2216HB servo
AR6100 /JR X9303
Total weight of all parts + 1000 3S = 518 grams.

Tail is also one of his designs.....Thanks again for all your help and the use of your workshop....even though I keep you up way past midnight....I´ll make it up to you and the girls soon....perhaps over some meat cooked over open flame and some beers during easter....?

Regards

Jussi
