Hey guys,

Quick question. Possibly gonna setup a Phase 3 F-16 with one of these two setups:

2w-18-v2 + wemotec mini pro
130-135mph 850w 4s

2w-20 + HET 6904
120mph 700w 4s 50a 40,000rpm


My question is, why does it seem so few people are running the 2w-18-v2 setup compared to the 2w-20? It's 10-15mph faster with only a few more amps (though I need someone to confirm numbers). Can't decide what I should do between these two setups. I fly at 3500ft ASL so my amp draw will be a little lower than most and can afford to run slightly higher efflux.

The 2w-20 setup looks to be only 7mph or so faster than the Wicked 4000+ 64mm EDO I or 5mph faster than his 4400+ 60mm EDO I setup which would save me a pile of money and is great support to Don!

Im glad you posted this, as i was thinking of doing the exact same thing with my F-16! I think the 2w18 is a little faster but with less flight time. Im sure one of the Australian guys on here (extreme rc) really rated the 2w18 over the 2w 20. I was even thinking of trying the Het 1w-30, but i think its a real amp hog/ battery killer and needs a 120 amp esc on 4 cells! So i'll wait to hear from the experts out there.

I too face the same problem, PH3 F16. 2W20 or 2W18? Not as much info on the 2W18 as the 2W20. I've read from a few posts the the 2W20 has been lackluster? I just don't wanna put out the $$ and be let down at the field. I wanna go for the HET 6904 for my fan. I ran the 6404 w/a Cyclone and loved it! They have small speed edge on the Wemo?! Any more info or advice from people with these motors/fan would be great

I have used both motors on 4s though only the 2w-18 in the P3 F16. Both give great performance on 4s imo. I used the HET 3 blade Schubeler rip off fan (7103?) in the P3 F16 which I am pretty certain is a lower load, faster spinning fan than the 6904. I used this fan/motor combo as I was concerned the 2w-18 might be on the limit in the 6904 fan - it might have been fine though. It certainly should be in a Wemo. The 2w-20 is fine in the 6904 on 4s. I think either will make the F16 move along very nicely while still keeping it light enough (I used TP 2100 v2 prolites so a while ago!) to fly really nicely. Modern cells will put a bigger strain on esc and motor than my setup had to endure.

FWIW I don't believe the HET is faster than the Wemo at same power levels. For a given motor it may be as it puts a higher load on the motor. Put a hotter motor in the Wemo to get back to Het power levels and I don't think you will see any difference.

It does pull more amps so you need a 80amp esc compared to a 60 amp for the 2w20. You also get less flight time. The website says the 2w18 is a hot motor and does need more throttle management.

I have data logged with the castle creations ice 100, my 2w18 has shown sustained 76a current draw and 1200w peaks when running a wemo fan so 80a esc is a must.

To me (and this is just me!), Once you are going 120, I am fine! No need for 130....I am perfectly fine going 120 and not wanting more (with lower amps and slightly cheaper gear). This is the reason I went with the 2W20 and (or Dons gear as my first 4s setup in the HP F16 )....Tom

Yes you are right, to take out a 120mph set up and replace it for a 130mph set up is hardly worth the time and effort. But mine was a 100mph set up with a Dons motor, and to me (and this is just me!), was well worth the time, as you cant wipe the grin off my face after flying it!!

The 2w20 is the better all rounder for great power, speed and lower amps. I just know it goes 120mph in the phase 3 F-16 as my friend has one!
