Speed control for a Axi 2212/26 motor.

What is a decent, cheap ESC I can use for my Axi 2212/26 motor?

Needs to push about 20 amps.

I was running a Jetti 18a speed control but I think I fried it.

LHS has a E-flite 20a for $40 but I would like something a bit cheaper so that my wife doesn't cut my head off.

Thanks.

Hi,

One Ebay you can get a Pentium 40 amp brushless controller with a switch mode BEC for $26.00 shipped. It might be a little overkill for your application, but you won't find a better value.

I wouldn't buy anything off of ebay that's not name brand, is NIB, and isn't from a seller without a high rating.

Hi,

Almost all 14 of my Pentium controllers have come from vendors on Ebay. No problems yet. Check their feedback. I have gotten 3 40 amp Pentium speed controllers from the vender who is selling them at $26.00 each shipped, all within the last 6 weeks. No problems.

Thanks for all of the suggestions.

Turns out it wasn't the speed control it was the motor that is messed up.

Guess I'll check united hobby or something for a cheap motor about 1000kv that can push my super zoom 4d to the moon

Buy a decent ESC. You can get indecent ones for as little as 10$ or a decent one for $20 or $30. You bought an AXI motor, so you know that quality costs a little more. I think Jeti ESC is by the same organization that makes the AXI in Czech republic. They are WICKED GOOD ESC's

A Castle Creations is a good option, and GWS makes a programmable 20 amp one (Buy the programming card). I have bought three or four cheapies. One works, one did, work doesn't now. third put out 9 volts through the BEC, and needless to say fried a receiver and two servos. Fourth smoked but may have been the motor wires touched as weren't adequately separated. E-flight has some decent ESC's, two in particular that have the plugs mounted to the board to prevent this from happening, and they make a 20 amp one. I have the 35 amp and have been very happy with it.

CC will replace an ESC after warranty for 1/2 price, and shipping it to Kansas for repair (they will likely just replace) ain't too heavy lifting.

Offer the LHS less for the E-flight. Everything is negotiable in the present economy and you need to have a scheme, scam or enterprise, plus good negotiation skills. I would guess at $30 they still are going to be making a little money.

I ended up buying a TR 28-30B 14A 1050Kv Brushless Outrunner for $11 from united hobby.

Its a foamie so if the motor goes bad I will just glide it back down. Kicking myself in the ass for putting an AXI on it in the first place.

Picked up a TURNIGY Basic 18A v3.1 Speed Controller for like $15 as well in case there is something wrong with my Jetti. Programming card was an extra $5.

I have had nothing but good service from axi motors. I have a 221226 and it has been abused: over proped, straight into the ground crashes, etc. Just wish they made a higher kv rated motor.
