4.3" TFT lcd "car backing monitor" from Ebay

http://viewitem.eim.ebay.se/New-43-2...d=837961489018

Im wondering if anyone have tested one of these monitors? I ordered one last week quite cheap from Ebay. My plan is to build it into some sort of cheap-mans goggles. I guess it will have a quite low current draw but you never know.

-960x240 means 320x240 (they're counting each R, B & B pixel) so resolution is not that good
-almost certainly goes to bluescreen on the slightest loss of signal

I have seen what claim to be 640x480 screens of that size on ebay which would be more suitable (if true) but you'd still probably need to deal with the bluescreen issue

good luck and keep us posted anyway

There's a thread a while back on this. I bought a 3.5" one and it was better than I thought. That's the size of an iPhone. I strapped it to my TX and used it quite a bit for FPV until I lost my plane. If you're flying in an area you know well or a really cheap setup, its great, but not good for somewhere you need to see clearly due to lower resolution. The challenge of ski goggle mod etc is that it need to be liek about 1 foot away to see OK, which is a long pair of glasses. IIRC I never had it bluescreen on me in the air, but I was useing a decent lawmate 2.4 500 CL setup. here's a "bluescreen" test.
3.5" bluescreen 1 (0 min 17 sec)

3.5" bluescreen 2 (0 min 21 sec)

Or use a lens (or 2)...
Bonus = you're no longer looking at a tiny screen 1 foot away

I still havent received the monitor so I cant give you any real update. But my plan is (as mich75 said) to use a pair of reading googles so that I can keep the screen quite close to my eyes. The rest of my setup is quite cheap so the low resolution does not bother me. Im still super green in the FPV world.

I just received the monitor, good picture. Flew some FPV earlier today with it and it was great! The only problem is the blackout which is quite sensitive.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.
FWIW, in the hopes of a ski mask mount, I tried a few optical solutions that did not work for me.

Thats funny because I was crawling ebay today looking for one too. They all seem to be getting the same stuff from the same supplier because many of the monitors on ebay are exactly the same. I rekon if there was a monitor designed for FPV around 6" and doesnt have a huge bevel it would have pretty good demand. I havent come across anything yet thats attracted my attention.

I'm a newb at this and havent done any FPV yet - I am still buying bits and pieces . I used a cardboard box to mount the screen and a fresnel lens in, then taped the assembly to a cheap plastic safety helmet. It works really well
I was going to view the screen on its own in the box but found it difficult to focus, with the lens there are no problems and gives an immersive feel . Some links to the bits used -

This was not my idea, just a variation of an idea by Bob from flyingwings.co.uk http://fpvlab.com/forums/showthread....bs-ECO-Goggles
Thanks again Bob
The whole lot less than 20 quid

That looks to be the ticket frank. That fresnel lens must do it. I never tried that.
I may take another look at lens placement when I have time.

I have received this exact lcd screen a month ago. Like previously posted its prone to going black on slightest loss of signal. Perhaps we can find a way to reverse-engineer the control board and delay/remove the blackout.

I noticed the screen is a little dim also, so when I looked closely I found that there is a 'film' or some sort of plastic sticker attached to the lcd screen. Does anyone know what it does? seems like an anti glare filter or something.

Pictures of mainboard and ic's coming soon.

I've mounted one onto some goggles. Works really good. But I look like a complete tool wearing them. And if i hand launch the plane I have to be careful not to hit the box on my head as I do it.
