Helping you promote gliders to landowners, friends and family.

Friends,

The President of our club, the Long Island Silent Flyers, recently had a video produced to promote our club and soaring. Several people have told me that they found this very helpful in explaining gliders and soaring to friends and family.

The video was made at an Eastern Soaring League TD contest that was being hosted at our club field June 21/22 2014. Many of the pilots in the video are not members of LISF but are ESL pilots. Not sure what the first glider was but the other three are Kennedy Composites Supras. The Supra, either molded or bagged, is the most popular glider in the ESL. And there are members flying scaled up Supras as well. Based on recent contetsts I have attended the Xplorer seems to be catching up in popularity.

Take a look.

Your profile does not indicate where you are from. If you are on the East Coast I may be able to connect you with a glider club.

I have been trying to make a trip out LISF for awhile. I would love to learn few tricks and need some help from the pilots there but Work keep getting in the way.

If you want I can add you to the Weekend Flying Report. This is the weekly newsletter I sent out to the club. Might help you target a day and time to visit LISF.

We have members from NJ, NYC, CT so you will not be the only one who is a little out of area.

If you don't have a car you can take the Long Island Railroad to the Syosset train station which is about a mile away. There are taxis ( about $7 I would guess) or we can work out a time for me to pick you up.

Great, but not this weekend. We have a two day Eastern Soaring League DLG contest to so the field is closed to general flying.

If you are in NYC, from Midtown Manhattan on a Saturday or Sunday it should be about 45 to 60 minutes, about 30 miles. From Brooklyn, depending where, also about 45-60 minutes, maybe 35 miles.

Of course if they are repaving the roads, some fool flipped his car, a bridge is stuck open or the police pull someone over for a ticket and EVERYONE has to stop and look, then it could be two to three hours.

Use 25 Southwoods Road, Syosset, NY 11791 to find the entrance to the field. Use mapquest to get your time and distance. www.mapquest.com
