Look up how to make either a patch or helical antenna. This is the one i made. Raised my range from 1km to 2km.

I have flown to 1600m with clovers and 600mW without a glitch. I don't dare to go further without rth. A crosshair is a very good antenna, but difficult to make. I've build one and it works kinda. Try it yourself, or buy one you won't regret it.

It’s all about antennas and antenna location. I get more than 1500m all the time with just a part of Blue Beam antennas and 500mw. The transmitter antenna needs to be on the bottom with a clear view of the receiver antenna. Carbon fiber parts are notorious for blocking the signal.

If you want more than 1500m then you might need a spherical antenna on the receiver. That won’t be of any use without having a good antenna location on your quad.

Helical antennas are the cheapest range boost you can have. You can make your own or buy them. They're really cheap, so you might just buy them unless you are into antenna building. Just don't buy a super cheap one as they are often made incorrectly.

A crossahir is awesome. A bit pricey, but awesome.

Also, heed RC Man's advice about antenna location.

That's the handedness of the Circular Polarisation, if you imagine it rotates depending of the antenna from which it is transmitted, a Left Hand Circular Polarised (LHCP) antenna rotates the signal to the left and Right Handed Circular Polarised (RHCP) antenna rotates the signal to the left, they do not bear mixing. LHCP plays with LHCP and RHCP with RHCP, should not mix them. Down the track you may wish to consider an antenna tracker, here is a simple one and the payoff here is there is no gear on the aircraft to run the tracker.

A little curious as to what you mean by "boosting" the signal of 5.8. If you're talking power output boosting, none is required. Like all the others have been suggesting, it's all about the antennas.

A cloverleaf or skew planar on quad and a 5 turn helical on ground station will get you 3km + easily with a 600mw tx. You'll run into battery life issues for the return flight home on that quad long before you run into video range issues.

That one is really poorly made. You can tell by the feed method. Start looking in the $30 range for helicals worth buying.
