The booms are either different or painted - he has made some changes to the standard rigging -done away with the o-rings - has some kind of wind indicator - sails appear to be a different fabric - may have a small tear in the main near the top of the mast.

The Vela's hull is without the standard decals plain white , as is the Nirvana - both look nice in white. I don't see the Walrus logo on the Vela's sails so they might be another brand?

The Vela with out the factory graphics doesn't look like the same boat. Very sharp and clean. I am not critical of the Vela's factory appearence at all, just saying you can get a good look at the boats design without all the "bling" graphics.

Storm sails for 20k+ days; too much trouble to keep repainting the boat trim.

Alum arrow mast(36") and booms(J16 & M15"); smaller gauge o-rings on booms; interchangeable wind indicator on aluminum mast crane; 3/4 ripstop nylon sails; opening on main sail is for shroud guide.

Fattening up on well done war eagle for hibernation time.

I made the storm sails after gusty day a few weeks ago that kept everyone on edge. Reduces total sail area by 20%, though to keep the CE in the right place, the jib is same size, just different dimensions, and the main is reduced in aspect and area. Rigging is similar to OEM everywhere but mast head. Arrow mast shimmed and fitted to 1/2" CPVC, which with minimum sanding, fits mast deck socket. Whole rig removes as unit when stays and sheets detached.
Seems as though lower aspect with full jib tends to lift bow when running rather than submarineing. Helm is similar to stock, slight weather in gusts. Sailed well for first time out, not like my Mardi Gras genoa, (yes I call it a genoa even without overlap, just tall and colorful) which needed a few re-cuts to work right.

On a serious note, last year I/we auctioned off the super Nirvana, to benifit a group home for autistic kids, bought em tiny wood sailboats, 41 of em. it was great.

The home contacted me yesterday, asked if we were in a position to help with xmas toys for them.

I wont sit here and paint the bleak picture of these kids, but, there are over 400 of em, mostly on their own.

So, once again, does the Nirvana group want to do a toys for em deal? I personally will match every buck one for one.

If so, I will try and find a toy supplier willing to match too.

Gimmie your thoughts..we have about 2 weeks, or so.

Actually I'm playing with my new toy, the Fairwind III I bought from Boomer.
Been modding it some. Built a boom vang today, installed custom sails.

I started a Fairwind III thread so I wouldn't mess up this here Nirvana thread EH!
