I think this next step may or may not be important but try it anyway. Rebind the receiver to your TX.
On channel 6 of your TX, just assign it to any switch and once you reconnect the gyro/receiver you should be able to turn it on and off via your selected switch.
Hope it helps!

It is actually pretty easy. Aux1, the on off switch for the gyro, defaults to the flap switch on the dx7s, dx8, etc. This, well, pretty much sucks. Other people will give you instructions on how to get the 3 position flap switch to work, and you may or may not get it to work with their instructions. But, by far the easiest method i have found is go into your switch menu and change Aux1 to one of your other switches. I use the F-mode. But any of the other 2 place switches would be fine. 2 place as in on/off. You may need to reverse the switch to have the movement more intuitive. Oh, be sure to set the toggle on the receiver the right way so it will let you turn it on and off with Aux1. It is the first toggle and I know the instructions say to the right, which is meaningless. If I remember correctly the toggle needs to be towards the inside of the receiver, not towards the outside edge.
