Yes ...

Also on peak of baseball cap

On dashboard of car

Slung under a 450 Heli

It's about the most useful of the small vid-cams out there.

Tip - Do not point the lens through the prop circle. The CMOS system detects the prop and you get what is called the "Venetian Bind Effect" ... the black lines across the video corresponding to the blades.

Here's a good site to read up on about 808's :

http://www.chucklohr.com/808/index.shtml

Tells just about all you need to know.

Looks like there are a lot of different 808 cameras.
Anybody use the 808 #1 on airplane?

The 808 #1, (2009 ?), has been superseded so many times, with each version improving things, (usually), that you would have to search back for videos.

All versions have probably been used at sometime, by someone. Have you tried using it. ?

The Mobius is the successor of the 808 and very widely used. If you want to buy new, I'd say buy a mobius.

There are hundreds of 'so-called' successors to the 808 ... even the MD is one, it's basically only a change of case / board design ... but at end of day - the 808 is still one of the smallest and lightest general vid-cams out there.

808's can be bought for as little as $2 and up to $100 ... depending on whether it's CMOS ... HD ... etc.

If you read the link I posted : http://www.chucklohr.com/808/index.shtml - it gives a lot of good information to identify the good from the bad.

It also depends what you really want ... I have bought them from Banggood ... and various ebay sellers ... all seemed to give about the same ... but then again I don't need or buy the HD versions.

One of the main points to remember - the 1S LiPo in them needs to be looked after ... I have a number of them where the LiPo has failed, due to sitting around too long. They need to be looked after.

Fixing to a plane ...

You come across the people who sy Velcro is good enough ... well I'm not one of those. I've fixed 808's to a lot of my models and Velcro has not been used on its own after nearly losing my camera ...
The Velcro used was Industrial and it still gave way and camera was only saved by my using a thread from the camera back to a point on the model.. as insurance line.

Now I have three ways to secure them depending on where on the model.

I always have Velcro as the base fixing as it helps to avoid vibration and fixes orientation, and the insurance line from hole at back of camera to a fixed point on model, - then either :
a) Rubber band around the camera and fuselage / leg / strut to anchor the 808
or
b) a small hole drilled through wing / fin either side of 808 so a tie-wrap can be passed through - this is excellent on a foam model ... the holes are hard to see when not used. The tie-wrap is only tightened enough to press the 808 into the velcro but not hard down.
or
c) Velcro strap - but this will make it hard to use the buttons.

At least if you don't use a, b, c ... please don't forget the insurance line !!

Last tip : Regardless of what 808 you get - make sure you get a large enough and FAST latest generation micro SD card for it ...

There are a lot of HD-action cams around but.. the mobius is the one on your "808"-list. That's why I bought it in the first place..

I use it and are very happy with it. Full HD and easy switching between predefined modes. Flew it into a murky stream and got it working again. Swapped out the lens and camera module afterwards because I minded the stain of mud that creeped in, a mere 20 repair. Has video-out that has a low lag and is usable for FPV.

Banggood has it and parts as well.

Mobius is not on my list .... I mentioned the MD8 - a cheaper, lower resolution machine.

Personally I would not waste money on a vid-cam for the average in-flight movie. I include mine in the opinion that most 'suck' to be honest.
So why spend out good money ?

I know my opinion will upset a few - but that's it.

My $5 808 produces similar crap in-flight to most others I see ....

My MD8 is being modified to sit in a slot in underside of my Ask21 glider ... to do "look-down" recon of flight areas .. but that's about only real use I can use it for.

I have a quad with Tx controlled camera .... bought to survey my estate round the house. Did it and then its basically become a flying machine rather than vid platform.
