Scratchbuilt P-40 flight report

I posted my construction progress on this a few months back. Well the wind finally died and I ran to the school yard with my switchback and the P-40. I put 2 flights on the SB to blow the winter cob webs out of my head, then screwed up the courage for the P-40. Two flights on the P-40 and I was grinning ear to ear. ROG on pavement 20'-25', smooth scale like lift off and climbout straight as an arrow. Absolutely no trimming required.
I just about fell over! This is my first scratchbuild, but definately will not be my last after the level of satisfaction I felt tooling around the sky. Plans are Earl Stahl 17" rubber scaled up to 34" WS. Aprox. 186 sq. in. Now I will finish paint and decal work.

GWS 370 geardrive from my zero.
3 HS-50's, A-E-R
9x7 GWS prop
7x720 NiMh Sanyo's
GWS 4 channel Naro RX
GWS ESC
15 oz. AUW (monokote covered, strong, and had roll on the shelf)
10 min. + flight almost WOT all of the time.

This photo is before I formed the canopy.

After the success I had with my Hurricane, I had no doubt your P-40 would fly well also. Congrats

Thanks bztguy. Again, sweet plane.

Looked at the Stahl plans site. The only p-40 I saw had a listed span of 24.5. Same plane as yours?

Thanks again.

nice job!!! not just the design and build, but that covering job looks really nice. post some pics when you get the markings on.
P-40s are sweet looking planes, plus that scoop on the front not only makes a great shark mouth, Im sure it keeps things nice and cool too!

First flights are always knee-knockers, doubly so Im sure when it's your own design!! good work getting her up and down in one piece. =)

Great job! It's always a good bet when you go with Earl Stahl plans. A great designer.

That's the one. I mistated it as a 17" span I scaled this up to 34".
I was bored with my GWS zero and wanted to reuse the powerplant and radio. So my philosophy was to build something close to the same stats. Here's some 'naked' pictures.
