Stock Zagi 400x and 3s Lipo

I just purchased a 5 year old Zagi 400 x with stock zagi motor and esc. It came with 9.6 nicad batteries. I'm wondering if I can use my 3s zippy 2200 lipo without damaging the esc and motor.

Cant say for sure on the esc but the motor will prolly sizzle on 3s.

Brushless is so cheap, save the hastle of crashing with an underpowered wing and get yourself something solid.

First of all lets discuss your goal with this.

Do you want a reliable flier? ie: do you have funds to invest?

Or are you just trying to get this airborne on the cheap for some giggles?

You can use any battery technology assuming it provides a "usable" voltage and assuming it will properly cg the ship.

If you do your research you can learn what others have found out very quickly, the stock setup just wont cut it.....

Well, I flew this wing today and it is definitely a beginners electric wing. Like what Atom said it doesnt have enough power to do anything. I can't do loop and very hard to fly inverted.

Thanks.

I had a Stryker B with a brushed motor that used crap NiCad batteries. I put a 3s lipo in it. So much better. Of course, motor lasted 1/3 as long. But worth seeing it move much faster and stronger.

As others have said, upgrade to brushless. $30 can you a motor and esc online.

Check out www.rctimer.com for a cheap brushless motor and ESC and you'll be very satisfied with that plane.

Wow, very good prices. Where is that company located? I'll do more research, need to know which motor will perfectly fit on the motor tray.

Thanks.

Any 28mm inrunner (see www.lightflightrc.com) should fit that tray if you trust a ziptie to hold a 200W-300W..... ++++ motor.

Yes you will fry the stock ESC with that setup. I fried mine using the stock setup and 3S 2350 Rhinos after about 3 flights, rolled over and went in hard, actually bent my battery. I upgraded to a 30 ESC, from an old wattage kit, and haven't had any problems since.

I've running mine with my Zippy 3S 2200mah with no problems so far. Ofcourse, I don't full throttle all the time.
