SeaMan: They are not as expensive as first appears. Once you get to work on one, and especially once you get to sailing one, you realize the many hours of absolute enjoyment you get from owning one, and all that cost fades very quickly. Any hobby can and does cost something but it is less expensive than some of the other hobbies I have enjoyed over the years. You can get these kits with a partial or a complete everything you need to finish one so you can spread it out, but it does need to be started at least. Enjoy!

Super video Pararooper. I love the ship and the work you've done on her. Watching this ship sail has renewed my interest in building the Great Republic. Now all I need is a place big enough for the build. Pete

Ships Log 24 December 1809

Ships Log 24 December 1809: Temperature 30 degrees, winds NNE 8 barometer steady at 29.85 SNOWING, ice on the water 4-5 inches thick. Wait--wrong ships log. I was reading the log from Syren. What we have here is a failure to communicate.

Surprise: Temperature 58 degrees, winds SSE 8-10 barometer steady at 29.85overcast. That is a whole lot better.

I was afraid we might not get a December sail in but today was perfect. A tad chilly but worth the effort to be on the water and watch this magnificently designed SC&H model sail. RG

Para if you aren`t getting royalties from SC&H for sold kits yet then you really should doubt there is better advertisement than yours and DanLs sailing pics !

Great sailing pictures, Ray! You are so fortunate to be able to sail at Christmas time. We have generally watching the water freeze and the snow fall. We spent 3 hours shoveling on Christmas Day. Lately, we would be happy with a stretch of 30 degrees. Your recent O gauge pictures are nice, but awfully white....

Well, if one is determined, you can go sailing in Minnesota during winter. It is a bit slow going, though....

I LOVE IT! Great to see someone in the frozen nort has a sense of humor even after 2-feet of the horrible stuff.

Yah, well it wasn't very long before I felt like Sir Ernest Shackleton on his 1907 "Nimrod Expedition" to Antarctica. What an appropriate name for that expedition! Although it wasn't until his 1914 Trans-Antarctic expedition that his ship, Endurance, was trapped in pack ice and slowly crushed....

Meanwhile, I think I heard a bit of hushed mumbling from the 1st mate as she was simultaneously shoveling the driveway - Something about "those idiot boys and their toy boats....."

By the way, did you notice the French colors? Never can tell what them guys might try!

Sailing through the snow....

Only 2 feet? We got 2 feet here near Annapolis. 'Course, that was like a 2 year average for this area all in one day.

The French colors are a "ruse de brrrrr" no?
