Continuing from post #347.....

Well I suppose most guessed or figured out that I finished the JW60.

Came out SWEET! My best foam build to date!

Andrew Palmer got 169mph with it on it's test flight at Tekapo, moving to second on the NZ Foam list. I flew it on mode 1 (opposite mode for me) same flight to 151mph.

A few days later we were at Sugarloaf in a Northerly and I put it on mode 2 and took second place from Andrew to 176mph. 2mph away from Joe Wurts at 178mph with his Reaper.

It was cruising at that speed. Felt like a mouldie!

I am currently finishing up the Reaper, single spar version, for another local guy. Fuse is fnished bar a fin, and wing is strapped. Just have to finish covering the wing and bag the elevons and fin.

The PW51 60" foamie has servos installed and fuselage shaped. Making battery pack for it now and will cover it soon. Also figuring out how best to reinforce the fuse and mount the fin so far back.

Nothing much else in terms of foam progress

Hey Alex

Was it the DS version or the standard version? Did you use the included spars and hardware?

I have got one to build before December and got the standard version but it looks like it needs a lot of extra work to get anything like strong enough to DS

This was the DS version. 4 spars (8 rods 4 joiners) Sub spar near TE. Carbon TE Spar.

Cross strapping, covering film then lam film. Made my own fin up, tapered the elevons and bagged them in carbon. 4-40 rod and gold clevises, carbon control horns.

Good for 176mph apparantly

Obviously a rock solid build given the speed. When you tapered the ailerons are you talking about making a razor sharp TE or in planform?

In planform.

Makes the wing taper a bit more, and keeps the pitch control area bigger at the root, and stops the outer parts twisting as much

That looks awesome. Are you going to tape and cover the fuse, goop and paint or something different??

Going to strap, then use my special black tape for the fuse. Makes a super robust fuselage!

Well I went against what I said. Getting more foam done. Seems like it is never ending!!

But i fixed DLGs and got some practise in. RT42 fuse molds are done and ready for a lay-up, and wing molds are being fixed by my good mate, Graham.

So I got on to some more foam. Did a Fuselage night. Takes only a little longer to do three than to do one. All pre-weighted and strapped with fins

That green one looks like a moldy not a foamy, very nice.
Thanks for posting.
