The Pelican (PLEASE HELP!)

Hi guys! This is my plane first thread, and first plane that I designed. She will be a twin cargo plane, that I want to use to tow gliders because I want to teach our local cub scouts about aviation. It weighs 17 oz without anything and is Go Pro ready. I just got into the hobby, and I have a FT flyer that I am learning on. The wing is my design and is 60 1/2 inches with a chord of 11 inches with flaperons. I am 11 and I made it without plans or any help.

I will post pictures when I get a chance.

My planned setup consists of 2 HobbyKing Donkey ST3511-810kv Brushless Power Systems with 12x6 APCs and a Turnigy 2200mAh 3S 25C Lipo.
I don't have plans because I don't have illustrator or anything.
Please post some comments!

11 years old and he's building a twin foamie! Outstanding! You have just blown away two of the "great fears" of RC oldtimers: nobody builds anymore, and young kids don't get into RC. Post pics when ya can and feel free to ask any questions. I am sure that there are a ton of guys who are ready to help with any issues that may come up.

One tip you may want to investigate: i know that at least some of the HK donkey motors have plain bearings instead of ball bearings. Check yours and if they are plain bearings, you will want to get somesewing machine oil, Marvel Mystery oil, or other light machine oil and periodically oil your motor bearings.

Do you think that the battery is sufficient for flight times above 10 minutes with a FT simple soarer being pulled?
I don't have any electronics yes, so I'd like to see other's ideas. I really want to get plans out to you people that have the money for FPV systems.

Yeah I like that battery better, it will be hard to get the CG with the 2200. Nice job at 11! I started building my own foamies around then as well. Took me a while to get it but after a while it became second nature. Actually maybe a battery with around 30c. Those multistar batteries have very low c rating and if you pull more than it's capable it'll kill your battery. So maybe something the same just higher c rating

Hey man, welcome to the world of scratch-building!! For an alternate motor, try using 2 of the hextronik 24 gram ones http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...er_1300kv.html I have used these on several of my builds, and they are cheap and powerful. If that isn't enough power, take a look at the turnigy XP series. They have several in slightly larger sizes.
Good luck!!

Series would double the voltage eg 2X 2200mah 3s = 2200mah 6s. Parallel double the MAH 2X2200mah 3s = 4400mah 3s

Ok thanks! So if I had 2 2200s in series, would I get more flight time, with the same power?

I need a power setup that can keep taking off and pulling under 1000 grams for an hour.
I need responses!

Wish you the best of luck on your design. If you haven't already, I suggest Sketchup as a design aid, works very well, is free and all your designs can easily be made into gcode for cutting on cnc machines.
I know your only 11 and a cnc is prob way in the future, but ya never know. I started building stick and tissue when I was 11, in the early 70's, and here I am an old fart still building.

I hope you have many enjoyable years in the hobby.
