Turnigy Aquastar 12A ESC

Well I'm looking into some new ESC's for my twin Apparition cat running on 4S.

Are they good??

Smooth throttle??

My Turbojets aren't very linear & am after smoother & crisper throttle response for racing..

Room is a problem otherwise I would jam twin T180's

Hi Madracer,

Apart from the typo (12A?), it depends on which motors and which prop you want to use.

The T-120 has a very smooth throttle response:

I'm using it in my Arowana with a Turnigy 3674-B-2200KV on 4S turning a 48 mm narrow blade prop, without any issues.
I'm using the onboard BEC and haven't added caps (yet).
I'm not familiar with the other ESC:

Regards, Jan.

The Aquastar with the blue wrapping is a good esc, it's a swordfish that has been rebranded.
The esc listed above will not be available anymore, been discontinued, too bad they were a good esc.
Nobody has run the replacements yet, they are a completely different design and not in stock anyplace yet as far as I know.
As it sits now there aren't many escs I'd buy from HK. I need a couple and am waiting for some testing results on the new Seaking/T-120/180 line when they become available.

Doooh......... Thanks Jan for correcting me.

The 2nd link are the one's i'm thinking of.

I have never been happy with the throttle response from the cheap Turbojets but they are well cheap & got me going. Always thought the Aquastar 120A was a re badged Swordfish ESC 120. Thanks for the info on your Arowana. ( Very cool machine as I watch Pauls in action )

Sibe you are right not many ESC out there at all. Even cheapies like the Turbojets are all but gone.

Yeah I had one from one of Paul's boats I purchased and are a bulletproof esc but wont fit in the tight sponsors of the Apparition. Batteries sit on top with the twin set up.

Need a low profile esc if know what I mean.

Thanks for the suggestion though bostong..

Hi Madracer,

I just received the HK replacement of the T-120 today, the ESC is manufactured by Flycolor and I'm going to test one from Flycolor in my 31,5" Arowana (forward only) and in my 43" semi scale MAS (forward & reverse).

I didn't get a progbox with the ESC, so I'll try my Turnigy progbox first, and if that's not compatible, despite the similarities of both progboxes, I'll have to dig through the 'beeping' to program it.
I'm not looking forward to 6 pages of Chinlish to get the ESC to work though, but that's part of the deal; to get a working (and readable) manual for this line of ESC's, which have a car background, based on the settings available (such as brake force, of start mode) that make no sense in a boat.

I'll open a seperate thread on the issue once I have some test data available.

One thing stands out; it's huge compared to the T-120, no shrinkwrap, but a solid aluminum housing, 100% watertight.

Regards, Jan.

ESCmaker.
I notice that you also make a 250A & 300A ESC. 6s-14s.

http://www.flycolor.net/product/hm_esc/index_3.html

I would like to test one of these out in a big Hydro on 8s, 10s, & maybe 12s. I've got no troubles with putting a water cooling plate on them.
I am aware that they are an aeroplane ESC & that the burst current is not much more than the running current. But But I won't be maxing it out, so it should be ok.

The question is. Where can I buy them & what are the costs?
Jan. Where did you get yours?

There is a gap in the boating market for this size ESC now that Castle have stopped making similar sized ESC's.
It might be something your company could look into.

I'm sorry that this is off topic guys. But I had to ask.

Cheers.
Paul.
