Well it works, a bit stiff for my liking, especially on the flaps.

It will loosen up a bit in time, after you finish it and bench race it a bit.
Worse case, you could carefully apply a small amount of X-acto in a few places, a little goes a long way, so don't go crazy.
Big plus now with stiffer hinges is improved centering.

It cannot be overstated how thin a layer of silicone is needed to hinge surfaces.
Almost everyone puts the silicone on too thick their first time....
I had a Mirage I bought used that had the center flap "hinged" with silicone by the previous owner....
I had to laugh at how thick it was applied.

It's pretty thin, and I did hit with a knife in a few spots, also had some spots where it balled up a bit i had to touch up. I think it will be fine.

Anyway, the goal is to have this thing done tomorrow and ship it to it's owner next week.

Ok so I installed the control horns, I actually cut them down a bit, they were pretty large for this size glider.

I waxed up the servos and poured some epoxy and micro balloons in the servo bays to give them a solid bed to attach to. The servos were then pushed in and taped in position.

Also started the wire harness for the fuse. It's pretty standard with a MPX plug. I like to put some goop on the individual shrink and then put a bigger piece of shrink over everything. Keeps things safe.

Der Vip ist der done!! At long last, this thing took a while. I'm pretty darn happy with it.

Did not take much lead in the nose to CG, and it is actually slightly nose heavy per the instructions. All up it is 33.5oz which I think is pretty darn good for a bird this size, so she should fly in a fairly light breeze. Of course she can hold a fair bit of ballast also.

We will have to wait for Adam to get some flight reports, that is if I ship it to him. I might just keep it.

The last of the pics.

Anyone else want to add their build here or flight report's, pics, etc,,, feel free!

Ali,

Awesome build. This is what a WHIP is supposed to look like. Can't wait to see it in person...that is if you send it

Thanks,
Adam

Great build, thanks for sharing it! What a distinctive look the Whip has. Adam has another winner in his fleet.

You are a lucky man Adam, she looks like a ton-o-fun! I'm sure we're all awaiting (patiently) a flight report

I was hoping this was a build of your CF bagged Whip kit, Adam

I love it CF 'au naturale' and now have one kit with CF bagged wings and another yet to be bagged, to follow in the footsteps of your's.

I think I'm going white for the fuse, though

Great build thread!

Hmmm,

...with a couple creases in the Top & Bottom mylar for the minor Tip-hedral (or even hinged) that should work.

Sure would make for a beautiful CF panel

You just need to slice the mylar where the panel joint is, behind the high point of the airfoil, and ahead of the high point of the airfoil.
If the dihedral is subtantial, or the airfoil very thick, you may have to slice out two very narrow wedges on the top mylar....
