picked up an ax10 scorpion

Traded for it last night. Played around in the yard for a bit then got it on the rocks today in a semi dry creek bed today. Didnt get that much timebon the rocks though because all of a sudden I only had front wheel drive. Turns out I dropped the rear driveshaft. And I didnt bring tools. Oh well next time. I did get some pics though.

great fotos

i have noticed that theres similiraties between the AX10 an HSP crawler

the chassis and gear box axles are the 2 main differences, i have the hsp crawler and wondering if the ax10 axles will fit

It shouldnt be too hard. I have seen quite a few crawlers with diffrent axles on them. From a glance at the website I would say yes. The axle set up looks quite simular. Main thing would be getting D mounts for the upper links on the axles. The scorpion only has one link at the upper end of the axle and the hsp looks like it has 2. Other than that just making the driveshafts work and you would be good to go.

Ok some attempts at some upgrades. I have an older xl5 esc that I am going to use for now since its water proof. Also steering servo from a vxl stampede. I am going to try a set of crawler rims and tires that where given to me. They are slightly bigger and noticeably heavier. Plus the beadlock ring bolts are receded into the rings where the axial heads actually stick out.

are you converting to 4x4 and front/rear steering ?

again the bead lock rims look like hsp rims

do they make metal rims as its easy to strip the thread on plastic rims ?

After some looking these are Red Cat wheels and tires. Also from what I have been reading the hsp is basically an axial clone. Not necessarily a bad thing. As for metal wheels yes I have seen plenty of aluminum wheels float around. Check out rccrawler.com I am on there too

Oh missed a question. Not planning on 4 wheel steering in the near future. I am planning on upgrading all the suspension and steering links to alloy

Here is how my rig looks now. I hacked the fenders off of an old abused hpi baja bug body and mounted it.

Actually got out to a local rc crawler course. I had a blast. Its still under construction with harded obsticals comming. I cant wait to see what they build next. The people that run it and the hobby shop are nice and love rc too. Unlike some shops that are there just to make money. Well on to the action pics

Getting serious I think. More mods!
Metal tub steering links. Will be building bta steering later.
Aluminum servo horn
Axial 30 aluminum high clearance links
Stock axial shocks set up for semi droop internal spring
Aluminum knuckles and hubs
1/2" wheel wideners
Panther leopard tires. I will be swapping wheels back to my red cat wheels
Axial 55t motor. Not pictured. Temp until I get a 35t motor
Losi spektrum radio set

Now my rig sits lower and is at 11" wide. Did a quick test in the front yard. I have some torque twist issues to deal with. It didnt lift any tires but the chassis would lean bad just going forward on a flat surface. Either its because or the semi droop or the front wheels have too many weights in them. Also now with heavier weights and larger tires the 27t motor just doesnt seem to be up to the job any more. I also have 2 sets of tires on stand by. Sedonas and Ripsaws. But I think the leopards are staying. On to pics
